I have a safari snorkel on my Tacoma and am wondering if it is safe to go through an automatic car wash with it. What about rain?

Snorkels have drain holes to allow accumulated water not to damage the filter media

Rain bro? If rain was unsafe with a desert intake, Toyota wouldn’t sell them factory equipped.

I wouldn't worry about the water. But I would worry about the brushes, towel spinning thing wrapping around it before ripping it from the truck.

I would guess no. I have a Dobinson, and have been afraid to do it. Maybe a touchless car wash?

But I would imagine the spinning brushes, magic fingers, and whatever else wouldn't do so well.

That said, what does Daddy Toyota say about it in the new trucks that come with one?

It should be fine. If I use one, I have a nearby one where you pull in and park...the thing goes around the truck to clean it. That way I can turn it off and just sit there while it does its thing. They have both a touchless and brush version of this type of wash.

Turn the inlet around backwards or take it off and you should be fine.

The real question is what kind of psycho doesn't hand wash their truck with the two bucket method and grit guards!?

I've never seen an automatic one that isn't the assembly line style?

NO NO NO NO NO :rofl::rofl:

I FOOLISHLY put this to the test once. Everything went smooth until the parellel roller to ground came up over my hood, tried to go over the windshield, jammed itself on the snorkel head.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT, it pulled the snorkel head off the snorkel body as the machine itself broke off and landed on top of my truck. In a panic my buddy riding shotgun rolled the window down and sacrificed himself to cover the snorkel hole which could now take in water with the help of gravity and I bailed out the driver side to retrieve the snorkel head because there was a car following close behind us

The snorkel itself was completely unscathed, minus a few concrete scuffs from hitting the ground. But it’s not a series of events I’d replay.

    snorkel: 1
    Car wash: 0

Call Toyota and ask them. I think Toyota assumes no one will drive their Tacoma Pro DAI equipped or not, through an automatic carwash. Their commercials always show a brunette, or a red head driving the Pro never a blonde.

Trucks with snorkels don't need to be washed.

I shove a hose in the snorkel head and let it run for an hour. Set it and forget it.

I think the car wash won that one.
