weight of aftermarket bumpers vs. stock

My tacoma has had some weight gain recently with Line-x and headache rack so I was wondering if I could offset that gain a bit. Are any aftermarket bumpers lighter that stock?

 

ARB about 175lbs

Shrockworks about 140lbs

Allpro about 110

Aluminess about 60lbs, which is what I have.

All great bumpers, but they are heavier than stock. Unless you are looking for a "prerunner" style bumper.

My front bumper only weighed 25 pounds. I don't think you will find anything lighter then that.

With a winch...

When I installed mine without a winch (twice) I could just pick it up off the ground myself no problem.

 

the front bumper doesn't have much to it. a 6'x4"x1/8 sheet of metal and some plastic.

 

You're not gonna get a lighter bumper than the tinfoil stock one... You'd be better off beefing up the suspension

 

I mean the 2nd gen ones. I didn't realize i was posting in the first gen.

The 2010 Toyota Tacoma bumpers weight is 175lbs. In the links below are the specs for the 9.5xp Warn Winch and ARB parts applications for the Tacoma.

 

Also a winch weights about 80lbs...no way the ARB is less than 100 lbs.

Those numbers I posted are straight from the companies. Again when I was looking for my 2nd gen. I think 1st gen would not be that far off.

 

Just mounted a Relentless Fab plate bumper. With winch (synthetic rope) the total weight was 164 lbs. The toal weight of all the stock pieces removed was 32 lbs. Net gain was 132 lbs.

You can add about 20 lbs to that total if a steel winch cable is used.

Thanks for the info. That bumper looks great. So great in fact that now I'm trying to rationalize a 132lb weight gain.

At the time, the 2 guys from Relentless Fab (Tim and Eric) were partners. So technically, this is a Relentless bumper. But soon after this, Tim and Eric parted ways and Tim went on to build and sell this design as an Elite Offroad bumper.

Right now, you can't buy this bumper unless you find someone willing to part with theirs. Elite is no longer making them.

Eric (Relentless Fab) is still selling bumpers, though his design is not the same as this one.

 

i am looking to add the IronBull rear bumper to my 2010 TRD Sport. I am concerned that the additional 100lbs (without winch) will really put some wear and tear on my truck. Any suggested mods to counter? i am expecting "suspension" as a response but was hoping someone out there can provide some more detail on exactly what they did. For instance, more leaves in the rear, stiffer shock, etc. have i answered my own question or can i actually get away with leaving the TRD sport suspension as is?
