ABS disable switch Mod

I found an easy way to disable the abs by accident. I installed my lift without taking the wheel sensor wire bracket loose. Snapped the wire. I didnt know until i had an ABS light come on. after troubleshooting the wiring i found the broken wire. so i thought, why not install a switch there to disable WHILE OFFROAD in conditions of loose terrain.


The wheel sensor has a plug located on the top of the frame rail just inside the inner fender(either side) the passenger is a bit easier to get to... choose one wire and cut it. install a SPST switch in the cab and run speaker wire (18g 2 conductor) from the switch to the cut wires. Installing the switch in series. When you turn the switch off (opening the circuit) it will take out a sensor and kill the abs system. when turning the switch back on you may need to restart the vehicle for the abs to reset.

on 09+ with TRAC (when the abs is off/disabled so is the VSC and TRAC) this will kill the auto lsd and the added traction.

Just a thought - some of that stuff is sensitive to voltage drops. I personally would use a relay located close to the location of your splice and wire back to your switch. That way there would be a minimum voltage drop to the ABS system. ...but I may be over analyzing it!

 

very good thought! im not sure the impedance of the length of wire and if the added legnth will cause over sensitivity do to the pulse being different due to added resistance. a relay would work great. now to use a NO or NC relay... i guess it depends on whether id have abs on or off more...

 

i will test different configurations. after doing some research on the wiring diagram i can see a few ways to disable abs without worrying about wheel sensor sensitivity or wiring a relay.
