It's alot more work it would be cheaper to buy a 4wd the PreRunner transmission and 4wd transmission are different different gearing and the PreRunner trans is 4" longer then the 4wd

It makes sense why the mid skid I bought didn't fit without modifications

    Morning everyone

    Gotta use that search bar

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/prerunner-to-4x4-conversion-guide.534480/

Maybe, maybe not. It depends on the output shaft on the trans. If it's got a common output on the trans you can just swap in the transfer case and adjust the driveshafts. Gear ratios may not be ideal but at least the front wheels aren't anchors anymore.

    $600 trans - https://www.ebay.com/itm/08-09-10-1...atic-Transmission-123K-Miles-OEM/193349432094

    $115 xfer case - https://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-2015-...ly-210K-OEM-LKQ/362625407551?epid=24027270125

    $115 front driveshaft - https://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-15-TO...LINE-4X4-ACCES-CAB-4-0L-USED-OEM/113933651757

    $225 front diff - https://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-2015-TOYOTA-TACOMA-FRONT-CARRIER-DIFFERENTIAL-3-73-RATIO/233440294806

New rear drive shaft would be about $500, didn't see any used ones on fleabay but it should not cost more the $250. ECU about $100.

    4x4 for less than $1500

    How are you doing Maner?

I'm sore AF from wrenching nonstop all week long but I'm really happy do have the work mostly complete.

FJ Tube should be here in the next two hours or so.

You'd probably save money and a lot of headaches just throwing on Marlin's RCLT.

That's my plan. All the pro's of IFS, most of the pros from a SAS, very few con's all around. The RCLT will fit 37's without trimming, up to 40's with basic trimming, can be bolted up on a Saturday with only one thing requiring welding.

haha, thank you sir! It's been a hell of a project but it's been a blast. That was the first little taste of victory for us. We'll see if we can't get another today during a test drive after the FJ parts go in. I need to get a basic road test and a highway-speed test in.
