Last fall, I used a slice seeder with good seed and fertilizer. Be aware that If you haven’t used one before, that the faster you go the faster you’ll piss through your seed. I’m also going to use a product call dimension (Lesco)
Edit: the dimension is work weeds that my lawn has that Scott’s or store brands don’t control . My lawn is overrun with nut sedge and a couple others

Being in Wrentham it feels like it hasn't snowed in months. I also dont expect to see many trails open at either mountain.

slice seeding is the way to go.

Twice a year I aerate, slice seed then top with compost. Just don't mow for at least 7 days after, preferably 2 weeks. This will let the seed get in and germinate without the blades shooting it all over and damaging it.

Clover is the shit tho, it really is a good filler between your grass and seems to hold up well to high traffic better than some grass. However you still need to keep up on other weeds or the lawn starts looking crappy.

Yeah it's just a plug in electric off craigslist for like 50 bucks. I did use it once this year just to know it worked. Especially with the new truck, unless we get more than 2 inches I basically just need to make sure my wife's camry can get out the end of the driveway, otherwise I just let everything melt this year. I usually look at the weather to see if it's worth my time to shovel or not.

I only have 1/3 acre lot, 1200 sqft house and about 1/3 of the yard is up front. Not worth it to even rent it for my postage stamp to maintain :D

I'll look into it. My plan is just overseed with clover up front this year. I want clover - drought resistant, "weed" so it is easier to maintain. Stays green, less mowing :D

I've been reading up that it's actually not as strong against foot traffic as grass? I dunno, I know it's better for not watering (I don't irrigate or water my lawn...), stays shorter when not mowed, and it's good for the honey bees! :D

I'm probably just going to grab a bag and overseed the front lawn before a good rain this year, and if it needs it then use some manual sprinklers for a few weeks. I still have leaves to wrangle from last year, my town does yard waste pickup every week which is awesome, but it starts first week of April, so unless I want bags of leaves sitting around I kind of have to wait a few weeks.

So that's what I was doing wrong the whole time we were over there...

That might be the side the drive on, but they use the whole road. I wish I'd had a dashcam while we were over there, just to put together a compilation of all of the 'Surprise! LORRY!!' moments on a curve.

Yeah yeah. I've only done the Hatch track twice now, but as I was going I felt myself getting faster and faster as I kept trusting the grip of the kart as the tires heated up. The first race there were a bunch of 17 year olds that absolutely reeked of weed trying to do their best impressions of Mustangs leaving Cars and Coffee. I was getting annoyed they weren't being booted, but rather they kept slowing the karts. I used the boost feature to slam one out of the way to get some open track. I'm not exactly proud of it, but I was getting sick of their blocking BS. With an open track the second race I was 2.8 seconds faster. I had another guy right in front of me who was a really good driver too so I just kept on his tail waiting for him to make a mistake, which was a lot of fun. That's how my buddy and I usually race when we go, especially if we've got an empty track. One leads, one follows and tries to pass the other, since we will both race clean and give up the passing lane if the other gets an honest run.

I have a Yamaha Grizzly 660 with a plow on it. I used "clearing snow" as a justification for buying an ATV. My driveway is probably only 80 ft long, completely flat, and concrete and I also have an Ariens snowblower.

It is considerably more fun clearing snow with the Grizzly.

That's actually one option I'm looking at is getting one to mess around with in the woods. But, again, being in RI...not a whole hell of a lot of places to ride less than an hour drive, so have to consider if it's really worth it to even own one.

I just like that it's light out later. my work was trying to push 4x10s and I basically said no, I much prefer having my time outside every day, rather than an extra day off. I'd do 8A to 7P 1hr lunch, so I'd have basically nothing for 4 days just to have an extra 1 day off for the weekend? No thanks. I'm out at 5 (4 if I come in early or work through lunches). I get out at 7, the hell? No time to go for a 3 hour bike ride, no time to take the dog for a 2 hour hike, etc etc. That's stuff I value every day more than an extra day off.

I do want to move south closer to equator, these short winter days are killer. My office has no windows (aerospace...) and I realized one week this winter I was working heavy hours for a project, I'd go in before sunrise, leave after sunset, I didn't see the sun for an entire M-F stretch in January this year.

There are a few state forests that are open to it in Western MA. I also have friends with some land. I couldn't justify a new machine--I paid about $3k for my 2002 in pretty good condition for the age. I put new wheel bearings into it, changed all the fluids, and I'm probably going to order a new OEM exhaust for it soon. I bought it some time last year, but it still isn't as quiet as I know it could be.

I've read that and that it is better, all I know is last year our lawn stayed in better shape than it ever has. Now I did water at better times, and I keep adding compost which helps it every year and the more mature the lawn the sturdier too....but in my head it helped!

When you don't need to mow on warmer weeks and the white clover blooms up it can be really pretty. The bees deff like it too! I'm a clover fan, I got converted last year.

I think @Noelie84 might do some clover too.

Yeah, I've been topseeding the lawns with Dutch White for the last two summers. The goose likes it, the bees like it, I don't have to mow as often so I like it...

I also seeded the 'reclaimed' stretch along the road on the lower piece with a mix of red and white clovers, buckwheat, bee balm, 3 mint varieties, and wildflowers last summer. I'm curious to see what comes back this spring.

Yeah I looked on the ol' craigslist. I have enough toys with 7 bicycles, wanting a boat, maybe wanting a second vehicle...The only thing I know I don't want is a snowmobile. They're fun, but very dedicated single-use machines.

Yeah, don't believe everything you read on the interwebs :D

I'll consider composting too. I bag my lawn clippings which adds a lot of time on a 1/3 acre with a push mower, so I might try not bagging them this year. after the first few mows.

I hate geese, but none around my neighborhood. I'll probably keep to mowing every 1 or 2 weeks same as before. Was probably going to end up with the white.

How is the Mint? Last I knew that shit was hard to contain and was really hearty against anything but straight round up or bleach.

That's my hope. I spent last spring grubbing stumps and brush out of that section, rather than letting it grow back up into scrub again after the power company came through and knocked everything back from the lines. So I'm hoping that the plants will crowd out any new trees that try to establish themselves.

Edit: 'Before' picture, courtesy of Google Maps:
    roadside.jpg

And after I'd done a lot of rock, stump, and brush removal. Then graded it more-or-less smooth, worked in some compost, and seeded it.

Yup, I have no interest in a snowmobile. A friend just got a mid 90s Ski Doo 780 that he's overhauling and it's fun and scary fast (at least I think so--not sure in comparison to modern sleds), but I can't justify something that I can't use most of the year.
