Skid plate and caliper mod

Painted my calipers and skid plate tonight. I was going to paint the drums too, but had technical difficulties getting the whole truck jacked up at once. I'll do them later.

I used the Caliper Paint kit by Duplicolor on the calipers. Taped off the calipers and brushed it on. Actually didn't take too long to do - only had to do two coats.

Then, I used Duplicolor spray paint on the skid plate.

Calipers after. Didn't really care too much about the back of the calipers so I painted just enough to make it look like the back is painted.


Skid plate before. Sanded a bit to help paint stick.


Skid plate after. Two coats of Rustolium primer, 4 coats of Duplicolor Red and 4 coats of clear coat.


All put back together. None of my front pics would seem to come out in
my garage, so I'll have to snap some pics outside tomorrow. But, this shot shows the skid plate, the calipers and the ToyTec coilovers. Don't they all look pretty???


On a side note, have I ever mentioned how much I HATE painting???? Spray painting isn't too back - but using a brush to paint - well, I hate it. I thought about giving someone else $100 to paint them for me - that's how much I hate painting! But, I bit the bullet and did it myself...

I have done it before on my other car, and the paint holds up well. Just some touch ups here and there now and then is all it needs.

 

looks pretty damn good man!! if the paint on the skid doesnt end up holding up very well......im pretty sure you can get a red bedliner spray to use on it, and i know that it'll hold up. but yeah.....looks kickass!!

 

when you bleed your brakes does the fluid eat that duplicolor paint or is it stronger than reg. paint.

Not sure about this one. I know that the caliper paint is rated for over 500* and resists brake dust, but the box said nothing about paint eating fluids...

 

I forgot to tell you I really like the red combo w/ the spring, brake, and skid. looks sharp.

Also, I'm probably going to be getting some spidertrax spacers since my 285s (on stock rims) are still rubbing the UCAs. And the spacers are blue - so they should match the lettering on the UCAs...

Now I'm kinda rethinking that engine cover mod I did..........

 

Brake fluid will still eat that paint...but use a bleed kit and problem solved.

They stay pretty good (barring brake fluid). Lil touches like 808 said.

Nope - the rims will stay stock. I love the black rims on other trucks, but not my personal taste.

 

fair enuf...I dig that skid plate. and I'm going to have to show your rig to my wife. I'm still working on her to let me lift it.

 

Thanks. I have to take a few more pics of the truck outside in the light, now that I've lowered the front a bit. The tonneau should be installed sometime next week too - can't wait to see how that looks!

I don't understand it, but everytime I take a pic, it just doesn't come out. Now, granted the skid plate doesn't hang down really low, so it's not as visible as "real" skid plates P), but you can see it when looking at it. Just the pics don't come out!

I'll keep trying...
