Trying to figure out how to sell my truck and get a different used truck instead.

just found out that tundra for 2021 will have a hybrid truck. This is encouraging to me make my decision

 

Hybrid, will that be good for towing?

Yup that's what it seems like, I'll just have to pay it down more and try later down the road. And yes I get a company has card.

 

I think what people meant was, IF you decide to sell the truck cancel it before and get money back.

It’s a Toyota, that’s why we pay a premium to own it. I have never bought or would pay extra for any warranty for a Toyota. I’m on my 3rd Tacoma and they all have been amazingly reliable.

 

Tough problem to solve. You have realized the initial loss of driving it off the lot and put a lot of miles on it further exacerbating the financials. The fact you financed a major percentage is the third strike. If you are an independent contractor you may be able to offset some of the losses against your business assuming it’s a business asset...but that’s peanuts. Can your wife drive it as her daily driver and you sell her hopefully older car for fair market value? If you can’t keep it you basically have to chock it up to the opps it has become.
List it for private sale is your best bet at best price. Buy a much cheaper large truck (2wd Chevy) that is an ugly color with some dents and hope it lasts. Sorry for your predicament.

 

Have you seen the torque electric motors can put out? And they put it out basically instantly.

 

The warranty is not for mechanical issues. It's for of the paint is damaged they repaint it, of I pop a tire they replace them, same with a rim, or if a windshield cracks or chips they fix it for up to 5 years, and the warranty stays with the truck not the owner.

 

I have on trains, BUT they use large diesel engines to power the generators to power the electric motors. Not sure how long batteries would last in a truck pulling heavy loads. If your going to work the horses, you have to feed them.

 

Let me preface this by saying I'm not an engineer or anything. But i'd think you really only put a ton of load on the electric motor to get going, then you can just cruise along once you get up to speed.

 

For what it is, and it really depends on how much you owe and what they offer you. You may be able to negotiate your way out of the negative equity.

When we bought my Wife's 2020 4Runner, her old 2017 Ford Escape had about $3,000 in negative equity (stupid thing lost about 70% of value in 2 years my 2017 Tacoma lost about 30% in the same time) we managed to get out from under it. First thing we did was get pre-approved by our lender (USAA) so we knew what we could afford, second we determined what our max budget was for monthly payments, third we shopped all the Houston dealerships to find the 4Runner we wanted/did price comparisons (we knew we werent paying 1k for nitrogen in the tires like some places force you to) and then 4th figured out what the value was on her old car compared to its loan amount (we knew we had negative equity).

Once we found the 4Runner we wanted, we negotiated the price as low as we could without ever talking about trade ins or monthly payments (these are traps if talked about too early). When we were happy with the price the guy goes, how are we going to pay for this? We said, well to start we want to trade her old car in (not telling them about the negative equity). So they take it back and appraise it and tell us we have 3k negative equity. Of course they say they are happy to roll it into the financing. That's when I told them, I am pre-approved with all the paperwork from the Lender, we will buy today, BUT I am not rolling negative equity in. If you can get to the price we agreed on, whether you give me more on the trade in or more in incentives or more in what ever you want to call it, ill buy right now. Of course he goes back to his manager, and low and behold he comes back with $1,500 off the 4Runner (which was already at the "lowest I could possibly go"), $1,000 more in trade in, and $500 trade in cash. Got the 4Runner 6k under sticker and no negative equity. Essentially 9k in value to me.

 

That's what your auto insurance is for (most of that). Your double paying for the same thing.

 

OK, then what's the problem? $890/month should let you drive any truck you want at no cost to you, even if you lose a bit on trading the Taco.

I don't think it's always that simple man

 

Im pretty sure it covers more then what my Insurance would, plus it doesn't raise deductibles, and it's faster too get things fixed. Not saying it's perfect, but I'm ok with my decision to go that route.
