    I'm not being snarky when I say this;
If your OCD is that high, I don't think you should seek custom work like this, and do it yourself.
Maybe it looks worse in person, but from the pics it looks like I'd expect, given the bumper doesn't fit the stock truck.

I mean I see your point and all. But they honestly did the install wrong. Is it really OCD if you pay for a steak and get a sloppy joe instead?

At the end of the day, the truck runs fine and everything is ok. The reality is they trimmed the plastic bumper too aggressively for what the instructions call for. I’m only trying to get the job done right on principle. Will I live another day? Absolutely.

We all have our expectations for work quality, and when you pay tens of thousands for a vehicle it's okay to be anal..lol. I'm not much, but again it's not my money. Every shop I've been involved with has that one or two guys that just can't get their shit together on any given day. You just met that guy, and let's hope they send him down the road. I think it looks cool. Most folks will be impressed. I'am.

My thoughts on “that guy” is the management should be prepared to deal with unhappy customers if the shop is willing to skate on shit work.

It’s also the first brand new vehicle I’ve ever owned. It’s personal and probably doesn’t help that I was raised by a navy senior chief who had “expectations”. Maybe I’m carrying on that do-it-right-the-first-time mentality....

I’ll be on-site at the shop Friday rain or shine. Hope they’re prepared.

Every shop has insurance. I've had to buy a motor because of a oil out. My boss never thought twice, made the call and helped the customer. Good luck Sir.

Yeah, the shop definitely didn't follow the SSO instructions. I just installed that bumper recently and those are not the cut lines. Your pics seem to back up your claim that the area they cut wasn't damaged too.
By the way, how did you get a SSO bumper so fast? People wait months, myself included.

The high clearance addon will not fix that. I have the same bumper with high clearance. That needs new bumper or live with the gap if shop won’t repair.

No chance in hell warranty is gonna cover that. Warranty is for manufacturer defects. That ain't no manufacturer defect, that's fully a result of the owners actions whether it was an accident or not. (Not trying to bash the owner, glad he's having fun with his truck.)

This is an odd thread. Usually you have some taco owner asking about what size tire he can fit, what lift he should get, and what sliders he needs for "off roading". I usually try to tell them to take it off road first, and the truck will tell you what it needs. Now I am reading a thread where the truck clearly told him what upgrade he needs to continue off roading, and he wants stock parts!

I'm not sure what annoys me more!

And who made it opposite day, dammit!

I agree!!! Someone got carried away with cutting before they "measured twice". They picked what they assumed were the correct body lines to cut and were wrong!

They owe you a new bumper skin or some other means of compensation to make things right. I would not accept that as a quality install! As someone that is detail oriented, that looks terrible...

(Talking about OP's install. Picture quoted looks great )

Well, if there specific instructions for trimming, and they did it wrong- then you're correct, they should make it right.
Thanks for listening, and replying with information, and not being an internet spaz.
Hopefully y'all are able to come to an agreement. If not, I still think it looks good, and I would try not to let it bother me, but it's your truck, not mine.

sent you a DM. I’m going to the shop tomorrow and will be making it known which shop it is if I don’t get the correct response from them. I’m even considering buying a new bumper cover and telling them to refund me the cost of that purchase.

from the pics, nope, not acceptable. looks like they cut where they wanted to as opposed to where they were supposed to per the directions.

I'm guessing they cut it that way, because your bumper cover was deformed from the accident They cut all the deformed area's off. Yes, they should of called you in to show you that, before proceeding.

The cover was only damaged under the driver fog. The rest was totally fine.

I'm with you though, regardless of damage if they've got to cut it up the way they did to make it work based on damage, you
sure as hell should have received a call, if for no other reason then to cover their ass when more was cut off than should have been.

I used to work next to a bumper reconditioning shop (Better Bumpers) when they got bumpers that were deformed they would toss them into a giant tank of super hot water... the bumper would pop right back into the shape it was before the crash.

Not sure if the company that did his work had access to lots of boiling water, but its a good option.

Showed up to the shop in person this morning. I was done calling, emailing and texting. Shop owner doesn’t even shake my hand or make eye contact with me. Then says hold on I’ll go get the tech who’s going to work on your bumper.

The third person I’ve dealt with at this shop so far. Comes out and starts telling me all the mods they can do to make it better and what they can fabricate, etc...

I just stopped him and said “if your going to go through all this work to rip it apart again, make some quick fix and possibly make things worse - you guys really haven’t considered ordering a new bumper and doing it the right way?”

FUCKING FINALLY A VALID RESPONSE - The tech says don’t worry. If you want a new bumper that’s what we’re going to do. He tells me he will order the parts today and will update me as they arrive and painted etc. and offers me a loaner car to get around while they have my truck. New tech apologizes for the experience and says he will personally be doing the work himself. Truly a night and day interaction and experience from the owner/ manager.

Later - shop owner calls. Says “sounds like we’re ordering a bumper for you and will be getting it done next week?” He doesn’t apologize or take any responsibility.

Once the work is done, it’ll be the last time I ever let them touch my truck again unless the shocks need to be warrantied. All of my friends know what’s up and won’t be taking their jeeps, Tacoma’s, 4runners and raptors anywhere near that shop. If they fuck up the new bumper I’m going pursue other options.
