Terrain we ride is likely the difference. Back in the day with my VP Free the bash was there when I needed it, but it almost alway came into play when I botched a line.

Now with 1x drivetrains and the bike brands I run, I would rather eat a chain or destroy a bb bearing than toast a frame putting the force in that area. Some bikes are built to take that impact thru the guide mounts, mine typically are not. I sometimes wish I had a 180/200mm + travel bike again, but would not put it to good use anymore.

I am somewhat surprised you notice any better shifting with more expensive chains. Usually its the rest of the drivetrain with almost any clean chain is the ticket. A mid level chain that has the harder coating than the cheap stuff will get the best life for the money the majority of the time, and as long as the chain is clean and not worn out, shifting is not effected. I have not really heard of anyone running a high end chain who could honestly tell the shifting difference when a properly adjust and clean drivetrain was used. Usually its a snazzy coating for slightly longer chain life, and like a 50 gram weight savings.

Sunday is demo day :bananadance: Was able to reserve 2 of my top 3. The other may end up being available as the person who reserved it is also demoing multiple bikes.

The load goes through the BB shell area either way. But with mounts you hope the company was specifically designing for those loads. If I was routinely in more rocks I could see wanting something.

Wow. Went on a ride today out on Redstone Arsenal. First off, @Jerneyman sucks ass as a trail guide. We went the wrong way on like 5 trails to start so it was like an hour and a half of climbing, which means he the mountain goat did fine and me the mountain walrus fucking died. I also took my new pedal to the calf and that hurts like hell.

    but.

we finally got to the top and hit a bomb ass technical downhill that I can’t wait to hit again and film for you guys. I got my first rock rash on my bike and I nearly cramped up going down it. It was awesome. Here’s our bikes for a fun “for the gram” photo.

if you zoom in right behind my chain ring you’ll see the new gouge I got lol.

I've also got the pro kit. Bleeding sram brakes is a pain so anything that makes the process less crappy is welcome. If you aren't in a hurry, I might sell it in a couple weeks. My guides are dragging and I can't get them to stop it so I may buy some new maguras if my last attempt at a fix doesn't work

This may be a dumb question, but how exactly do warranties work for non-original owners if the bike/frame was never registered by the first owner?

Does the next buyer truly have the ability to just register the bike/frame via serial number I assume, and then the warrant would be honored for their uses?

Wrong way is just relative :D

Once I ride all those trails out there, I’ll be a better guide, I promise.

That’s how they sell demo bikes. I would think any unregistered bike would work the same. Worth a try.

Redstone Arsenal... wow, that brings back some fun memories. My Army AIT was there back in 1992 during the summer... BRUTALLY HOT being out on a demo range, but I did enjoy our occasional sorties into Huntsville when they rarely gave us free time.

Took the Chameleon out to Purtis Creek today... a little muddy, but the trails were flowing pretty good.

I wonder how many people tried to imprint their faces on the rock at the bottom of the picture.

There is definitely a good chance that all the dark dirt at the bottom of that photo is dried blood. :D
