2nd gen carrier bearing picture request

This thread is old, is about carrier bearings and the cross members above it, and is no longer useful to me. It was in regards to the 2nd gen Taco's using 2 different style cross members. I made the thread asking if forum users could post up pics and year/model of the truck. I resolved the issue by making 2 different holes in the top tower piece on my carrier bearing drop bracket.

The bracket drops the bearing to help with vibes, and drops more than the common washers or spacers sometimes found in lift kits. Dropping more than what those kits offer has been the 99% fix on the Tacoma. I designed this after seeing way too many setups that had bolt threads maxed out, or simply had a lot of slop in that area which is why I added the top tower, a 3rd attachment point.

Out of about 40 of these now, I've only had 2 trucks it didn't help. I have one for first gen, one for second gen Taco's and one for Tundra. I offer them in 2 drops, 1.5" for rear lifts at or below 4.5", and a 2" drop for trucks above 4.5". I'll be the first to say beefed makes a good drop mount, very solid

 

Man, I want one of those. Will it cure the small off the line shudder I have?

 

Just a thought, have you tried looking at prerunner & 4x4 to see if they are different? I remember seeing that preunnner don't have zerks & 4x4s do.

Prerunners were always known to have the same chassis as the 4x4s minus the 4x4, wonder why they decided to change the driveshaft on the 2nd gens?

I doubt it? The video's that I've seen of the shudder, the driveshaft is the problem not the bracket.

The carrier bearing has a rubber pillow around it that allows the shaft to bounce, and that is what you feel.

This bracket will be stronger, and for a small percentage of people it may ease the vibrations. But it won't cure the POS design/workmanship of the Toyota driveshaft.

 

I know Je reel makes them for the lt guys, i had one on my truck but sold it yesterday so no pics of it. Pm socalprerunner as he has one on his truck.

 

My 2010 is offset of cross member, but has 4 mounting holes 2 directly under, 2 a little offset. Hope this helps

Other things that I wonder if they might affect which mounting point the carrier bearing is at:

Base/Non-base
Prerunner/4wd
4cyl/6cyl
Open diff/LSD/E-Locker
MTX/ATX

 

I really appreciate the pics and the info guys. It helps big time. The Tundra suffers from what the dude's on Tundratalk are calling the launch shudder. A forum member over there discovered the 2007-2011's need the bearing brought down 3/4" in stock form (no lift) to cure the vibe they get.

Over the course of the past year I've probably sold 20 of these brackets to member's over there, and haven't heard anything negative about the bracket. It's cured every single person's vibe. 100% success rate so far. If this can fix the vibration problems for $60 compared to the cost of a custom shaft, then I see that as a good thing.

The Tundra has been a 1 size fits all at 2-1/2" drop, lifts ranging from about 2.5" to 6". Recently I've decided to offer these for trucks in 2 different heights. The guys with very mild lifts (1" to 2") will probably benefit from one with about 1.5" of drop, and then the other at 2-1/4" for the 3" to 6" lifts.

I could simply make these without the 3rd attachment point up top, but I like it since it helps to make this area a bit more solid. Please keep the info coming because it won't take long to get to the bottom of what year has what style on this active forum. It's VERY much appreciated. Thanks to those who've posted up.

Seems like maybe the 2wd's are directly under the crossmember and the 4x4's are offset due to the transfer case ... cept for toyo freak, but atleast he has the mount with 4 holes?

This was actually the pic of my truck that I sent Beefed, not that it matters. CB bracket is offset compared to the crossmember above it.

Mine is also offset like vidmans. Mine is a 06 D-cab 4x4 Sport short box with the 6 speed.
