I can only assume. Guess I'll find out tomorrow when the driveshafts get re-installed.

My wiring harness for the 4x4 ECU was a total bastard though. It had one plug color-coded for pre-2008 and the other was color-coded for post-2008 Tacomas. Luckily the pin locations were the same and I got it all worked out.

It was pretty exciting to see this afterwards

quite satisfying indeed. No more worry about that stupid ECU causing that light to flash, shift into gear and go just like how it should have been off the showroom floor ;)

that’s an easy fix. I leave my shifters unlabeled as a sort of anti theft mechanism. I’ll let them struggle if they really want the truck

I'm in the same line of thinking. Steal my truck? Good luck.

I just swapped my plugs around so the dash lights read correct for 4wd and low. I had assumed they were correct when I installed them so the dash was reading 2 low but it was actually 4 high. It's working 100% now

YO! I need some help from you taco gurus out there

So i've had a damn field day with my 2005 Fj Tcase swap Indicator light issue:

    - Little Back story

2005 Tacoma (Factory 4wd) swapped FJ Tcase (RST supplied) in addition ordered Wyatt's wiring for the ADD switch & cross member.

Everything was installed and 4wd operates FLAWLESSLY... Have been tested and ran countless times since the installation!

HERE IS THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION....

neither of my 4wd indication lights are functioning when the shifts are made.

Followed Wyatt's write up on splicing the existing 4x4 ecu wires together to complete the light circuits to align with the sensors on the Tcase

    Reference Below: https://www.rocksolidtoys.com/single-post/2017/08/25/05-Tacoma-IFS-T-case-swap-wiring-instructions

    "05-08 Tacoma 4wd ECU wiring

    Connect 4wd sensor wire (red w/ blue stripe - B 22) to the 4wd light wire (solid red - A 19)

    Connect 4lo sensor wire (yellow w/ black stripe - B 17) to the 4lo light wire (brown w/ white stripe - A 11)"

"The final step is to confirm that you have the sensors installed and connected properly at the transfer case.

The 4wd sensor will go into the passenger side of the transfer case and the plug should have two wires (red w/ blue stripe and white w/ black stripe).

The 4lo sensor will go into the drivers side of the transfer case, be careful though as it will go into the opening closest to the front of the truck, and the plug should have two wires (yellow w/ black stripe and white w/ black stripe)."

Conformed the correct install with Wyatt over the phone and could not find the issue source. He seemed to be at a loss too due to the fact that his SAS Tacoma "the beast" was of the same year model, with the exact wiring as mine.. yet, why am i having this odd issue. So then i broke out the multi-meter for some investigation...

SO, What have verified: (1st off... 4wd lights in dash are a keyed source & the 4wd indicator lights SHOULD only function when the shift is made... Obvious enough.)
& my taco is a Factory 4wd truck (the dash shows the indicator locations just below & left of the fuel gauge)

-The 4x4 Fuse is not blown.
-The Fuse block (under steering wheel) is receiving power, as well as the 4wd fuse port.
-The wiring splices i have made from the deleted 4x4 ecu (4wd HI & 4LO) are receiving power..
-The wiring at the Tcase is receiving power at the plugs (both 4wd HI & 4LO plugs)
-Both the 4wd HI & 4LO sensors are receiving current and are conductive (Signs of operational sensors)

the last thing I have yet to verify is the connector behind the dash. I stumbled upon this picture posed from (SAE) and my two trains of thought as of now are:

-Locate this white dash indication wiring plug and cut the two wires for the (4wd HI & 4LO) lights and run power to them to verify that they even work...
-Then, chase those two wires all the way back to the plug connections from the deleted ecu to see where the missed connection/ ghost break is???

OR (the preferred method) Totally bypass my clearly flawed oem 4wd wiring and make my own bypass connection

-Take the white dash indication wiring plug and cut the two wires for the (4wd HI & 4LO) lights and run two new supplies all the way back (behind the dash) to the two supplied power sources via the splices back from the 4wd ecu to coincide with the shift points in the circuit. "In Theory" this should work?

    Any ideas guys?

    Thanks!!!

One quick idea that comes to mind...did you match up just the wire colors from Wyatt's instructions or did you match up pin location? So far everyone I know who has done this or the ADD delete has had different color wires at the 4wd ECU than what he states in his write-up. The pins don't move though, so if you went by pin location, you can rule that out as the issue.

Littles - I did notice that the colors didn't exactly match but the pins are correct, i will double check tonight!

Sae - (unsure of your year Tacoma) but, what two wires control the 4wd dash lights? was going off your (dash connector?) picture you posted just as a reference.

-Any of you PreRunner swap guys wire the dash lights up differently? OR has anyone else experienced this issue??

-I cant seem to source any wiring diagram from the dash indicators showing where the 4wd indicator light wires run. just trying to run a continuity test on the dash lights by themselves to see if they even light up, then go from there.

    any other ideas:frusty:

Post # 193. I have not personally wired my cluster lights, but might try it soon.

My is 05 Prerunner. There's plug right behind right gauge(fuel/temp) it will have 2 empty slot on plug. That's where I connected 4lo and 4h.

If his is like mine which it should be. He added those two wires and ran then under the truck directly to the wires coming off the fj tc.

So, I would need to run the two individual light wires from that plug end behind the dash, down to the 4hi/4lo wires coming off either side of the tcase sensors for a supply? why not the connection under the glove box where the deleted ecu splices were made? is that not the same connection as far as supplying power for the individual lights?

If thats the only correct way to achieve the function, which of the two wires do I splice (the dash light wire runs) into on the tcase sensor plug?

4LO - on drivers side, front port (Yellow w/brown stripe & White w/ black stripe)

4HI - on the passengers side (Red w/blue stripe & White w/black stripe)

I didn’t go to the glove box because I didn’t have 4wd to begin with. I think you mentioned it already but if you didn’t have you checked wyatts post about the plugs ?

this is the link for it. This may be easier for you than doing the cluster. https://www.rocksolidtoys.com/single-post/2017/08/25/05-Tacoma-IFS-T-case-swap-wiring-instructions

Here is what I found behind the right side of the gauge cluster. Pic included

so per what sae/new life described the left most wire is the 4Lo (brown w/white) and right of that is the 4hi (solid red) which aligns with the write up from Wyatt for the glove box connections.

so which one do I try and connect it with to get the lights to align with the shifts? The tcase sensor wires or behind the dash?

Verified that my connection for the correct pin locations was as Wyatt described. No grey w/black stripe on either of my ecu plug ends...

I’m going to cont. test the actual light wires on the gauge cluster to see if they even work but if not I’ll have to come up with something.

UPDATE: so this weekend I got around to cont. testing the actual 4wd light wires on the small plug (right side) gauge cluster plug. Both red and brown&white
As detailed in the picture from the most recent post.

    got nothing.

so I figured I needed to pull my gauge assembly apart and test the actual led connectivity... while disassembling I found this..

    upload_2020-3-23_10-51-41.jpg

    upload_2020-3-23_10-52-22.jpg

Someone had shoved wadded up pieces of electrical tape into the square holes on both my 4wd and 4lo light channels on my gauge panel!!!! WTF. I cannot explain it. I bought the truck in 2015 and the previous owner must have done this.

Maybe he didn’t like the flashing lights? Hence the whole reason for my swap being that the original e tcase wouldn’t work?

    they’re working flawlessly now.
    BEER TIME

Holy crap. Why?!?! I’m glad you sorted it out but that’s just crazy. How lazy, cheap does someone have to be.
