I ran 10 miles last week no problem. Been doing 6 mile runs every other day for two weeks, no problems.

Plus this pain is in my abdomen not my ribs.

I went to see my doc and she ended up doing some blood tests and I had a CT done. Looks like the NSAIDs they put me on for my costochondritis ended up eating up my stomach and started an ulcer.
Luckily no pancreas or gall bladder issues.

No more NSAIDs for me. I was eating full meals with them and drinking 8-10oz of water but that didn’t help.

So you were unable to find any natural methods to clear up your stones?
I hope your surgery goes well.

I’ve been doing epsom salt in cold water, drinking that once a month which causes diarrhea for a few hours and also dilates/relaxes the ducts which stones get stuck in to make them move easier, haven’t had a flare up in a year or so, it I still have to get this bladder removed

btw, the epsom salt in water tastes like fkn shit

I’m gonna ask you a question, maybe you know maybe you don’t.

My rib pain is coming back. I’m sure IV anti-inflammatories during surgery and hydros helped mask the pain for a bit.
Pain hit me after my first day back to work.

My pain is in my back. When I look up costochondritis it ALWAYS says its in the front of the chest. I’ve never had pain in the front.
It seems to me you can’t get costochondritis in your back ribs.

Should I be looking at a potential back issue?

I’ve been having trouble for 3 months. I’ve not lifted weights in 2 months. I’m resting as best I can. I’m just tired of this shit.

I think I was misdiagnosed. Do you have any thoughts or knowedge? I’m going to reach out to my doc about it.

Any other symptoms? Or just back pain? I’m just a nurse so I can’t diagnose you but I can say go get a 2nd and 3rd opinion

Just pain on the backside of left rib cage (no spine/neck pain).
I can cough or breathe as much as I want the pain is unchanged. Just a continuous ache.

The only thing that aggravates the pain is twisting while lying down. Fighting gravity in essence.

I’ll reach out to my doc, although I’m tired of medical care lol.

    Thanks!

I wish you the best of luck and a speedy recovery!

How long is the recovery on that, just a few days?

Mine was taken out 2 years ago January 30th. Mine was... a horror story. Surgery itself was textbook, and what happened to me after is stupid rare, but I have a semi-paralyzed stomach now. But, as for the surgery itself and to not freak you out because it's a really, really standard procedure:

As far as recovery from purely the surgery (minus my complications from anesthesia etc due to underlying conditions) the recovery time was suuuuuuper easy. I was 19, I have a liver condition that caused my bilirubin to sludge the gallbladder up. I woke up, refused pain meds right away (mostly because the scopalamine patch they gave me made my mouth so dry I couldn't really swallow anything) but I wasn't in a terrible amount of pain. Kinda felt like someone took my liver out, beat it up, and put it back in. I walked around hunched over for about a week after just from local pain from the keyholes. As someone with some pharmacy experience, take it easy on anything with tylenol in it (including the norco) your liver just its friend burned off of it, it needs a bit of a break lol. I was walking around doing normal stuff within a few days, those few days counting 3 where I was hospitalized due to numerous complications.

Some advice though, take your vehicle with the best suspension anywhere you need to go. We went to the pharmacy for my meds after I got home from the hospital and I really should have made my husband pick them up alone. At the time, we had a 3rd gen leaf pack on our 15 and stock suspension and the whole 20 minutes there was straight pothole and good grief that was not fun.
Wear a shirt you don't care about to bed, especially if you sleep on your side or stomach. some stuff does ooze out from under the glue at night.

This might have been just me, but when I woke up for the first 2 weeks, if I sat up from bed real fast, I felt like a plopping sensation on that side that would just make me so nauseous lol. It's like everything had to fill that empty space.

Also, check your temperature. It's normal to have a real low grade fever after the surgery. Your temperature naturally elevates at night too, so keep that in mind. I was running between 98-99 during the day and about 100 at night for about 2 weeks after. They told me it was pretty normal. If you feel under the weather at all or like something might be wrong, just give your pcp or surgeon a call and let them know.

Every scar of mine is different too. Of the 4, 2 are sensitive and really visible, the other two you can't really see and don't bother me. Out of the sensitive ones, one is flat and super purple, and the other is white and sticks out. They all heal really different, and that's pretty normal for everyone. I only mention the scars because some people care about that kind of thing. The sensitivity is annoying but it's not super painful, I just don't like to touch them. Most people don't end up with sensitive scars though, but it can happen depending on how everything heals up.

Good luck! It was my first surgery, and I was scared up until I was hospitalized before my procedure, then once it was time, I wasn't really that nervous anymore, I just wanted the damn thing cast into the abyss. Have some low-fat foods ready for you at home too! Use skim milk for a bit, etc. Just be generally nice to your innards for a little while.
Everyone I know complains about having the runs when they eat lots of fats, some people experience a lot of gas, etc. Basically, just some rougher digestion. Your body does get more and more used to fats though. I still can't eat anything super fatty, but a lot of that has to do with the complications I face now. I do get some pains in the upper right quadrant at times, but nothing like what I was getting before my surgery.

Hey thank you for the input. I’m a little nervous right now lol I know some friends and a cousin who’s had theirs removed and they say everything is back to normal but they do have diarrhea immediately if they consume too much fatty foods in one sitting

My doctor told me rule of thumb is to never eat anything that has more than 3% of your dv of fats if you're trying to avoid an attack. I ate a lot of instant oatmeal at the time, but you need to eat to keep your strength up for that surgery, trust me. Applesauce, babyfood, plain toast, rice with maybe some simple spices. Bland and no fat.
Leading up to my surgery, I didn't eat for 6 days. I maybe had a few sips of water. I just slept to try to get through it. The night before my surgery was scheduled I didn't feel right, and I took myself to the ER. I had lost so much weight and was so weak that my heart went absolutely nuts, and I was admitted to critical care. I do have a sensitive heart, but I had never had an episode like that. The worst was, they had to push my surgery back while I recovered, and because the time and day my surgery was going to be was up in the air, I STILL wasn't allowed to eat.
Try to find something. The attacks are nightmarish I know. Mine made me so nauseous I would just shake and shake for hours. I'm horribly afraid of vomiting, so being on the verge is the absolute worst. I was always so scared of those attacks, but I would have suffered through a few more if I knew what trouble I was getting my heart into, and what kind of complications I would face after surgery as a result.
Oh, and how much it costs to stay in a hospital for 5-6 days :anonymous:
Get rest, keep distracted, and just eat a little bit; doesn't have to be much. Hang in there, you're so close.
As silly as it sounds, my saving grace even to this day with my gastropareis, is baby food and saltine crackers. Doesn't sound great, but there are a few fruit flavors of baby food that are basically applesauce with less added crap.

So I checked in yest morning for surgery, was suppose to be at 12pm. Around 330-3pm I was about to go in and dr said wait a sec your AST and ALT levels are elevated and we cannot do surgery it’s elevated and dangerous. So I got admitted and been on IV hydration since last night. They just drew more blood to see if levels came down for surgery today, if not I’m leaving and scheduling surgery again for next week. FML

edit: since I did have a stone stuck on Tuesday, pretty sure that’s what elevated liver enzymes

Ok, can’t pancreatitis cause elevated AST and ALT levels? Pancreatitis due to GALLSTONES.
Also being dehydrated because they asked you to stop eating or drinking past midnight the night before (which no fluids is no longer wise medical advice) could skew blood tests.

    I would be pissed.
    I’m sorry :(

Quite a few things at this point..
I'm 33yo and had to have my gallbladder removed, ON MY BIRTHDAY! Now that was a surprise I wasn't expecting that day, or any day. I'm actually very athletic, have weighed under 175lbs my entire life so far, but no, I didn't eat the best. It's been 8 months now since my surgery and things are completely normal again. I can eat any foods I want and I don't have issues, though "shitty" foods are seldom treats now.

My $0.02, GET YOUR GALLBLADDER REMOVED!! Stop waiting around and making things worse for yourself! Like others have said, life is way too short! And seriously you're just doing more damage and you could honestly die, it absolutely can get that serious.. Don't be stubborn, grow up, bite the cost bullet, and get that crap out of you!!
