i recently bought a trailer to convert and customize to make a camping trailer. I can’t t afford the the ones currently on the market. I’m sure some of you built yours and some bought a trailer already built for camping. (patriot campers, black series, smittybuilt,etc...)
So my question is what do you have? What do you like and dislike? Do you recommend any parts or must haves for a trailer? For anyone who built theirs. Please post/show them off.

Here is the current state of affairs with my buy.

Pop-up camper here, bought from dealer but modded by me. Dual battery system with monitoring station inside, rewired the electrical system so it actually makes sense for boondocking, led lights inside and out, reconfigured/rebuilt interior storage, repainted interior cabinets, and most recently added stabilizer bars to the landing gear to quit the trailer shakes. (Got tired of alerting passerby that romantic activities were happening in the camper. Or whenever the camper looked like romance was going on when in reality we were just walking around.)

One thing I've learned is that home built or bought, either way you need to be handy with a drill and wrench. I'm always finding loose bolts every time I set up.

Can't wait to see progress on that one, op.

I will be doing led lighting also. I have been checking these out but it might get pricey

Very nice, but as you say pricey and will murder your night vision every time you accidentally face their direction. I prefer the cheap strips, they put out a lot of light without being quite as harsh on the eyes:

I'm not sure if this counts for your intended thread, but I tow a 19' Gulfstream Vintage-style TT. I've beefed the rear suspension and other mods to the truck. I take this truck and trailer everywhere up to 11k foot passes, over many fire roads, lots of remote camping in winter storms and very hot, dry deserts. And yes, lots of repairs and maintenance on the trailer.

I’ve always wanted to see one of these with clearance “to go places”... see what I did there...

I agree @sewerpickle, I wish this trailer had higher ground clearance. I've thought at times of making a skid plate for the axle and other lowpoints. So far, it has only been tricky a few times but a smarter person would probably not even tried those.

My camper but it no longer gets used since I bought a secluded cabin in the Appalachian mountains.

I like the steel wheels. What do you have set up under the tent?

Thanks, they’re FJ Steelies. Traction Boards on the side of the trailer, Frontrunner rack with a Yakima Basketcase under the tent.

I have a little 16 footer we use one week each month at dispersed camping or non-reservable.
It's all we need. A KZ Cotote with a small bump out for the dinette.
I have it all set up for dry camping, as we don't have hook ups where we go.20191010_112246.jpg 20191010_112246.jpg

Love those Casitas, they seem to hold up well. Nice cabin too!

Thanks. I need to sell it, shame to see it just sit under my carport.
