Apologies. I don’t speak the lingo. Have heard the words tune up thrown Around for ages but have no idea what it entails lol.

Just depends on the vehicle. I feel like the term “Tune-up” was more relevant on older vehicles with carbs/distributors. It’s still a feel good term and vehicle specific. Our trucks don’t have much to tune up.
They might dump a bottle of fuel injection cleaner in the tank for that price and change the plugs. But seems like most of the maintenance items are being billed individually as opposed to one sum under the tune up.
What part of Mississippi btw? I just got back from 2 months in Natchez.

I’m in Jackson, MS. What brought u to our glorious state? Lol. Looks like u hail from Jersey? Was up there with my buddy that’s fr Newark. We went to the meadowlands for the Giants/Cowboys game with the legendary black cat on the field !
Thanks for your advice. Seems like a feel good term but yeah I’ll try and get them to maybe clear up what all is included in these procedures.

Agreed. The tune up term used to entail plugs, wires, cap & rotor. Perhaps a carburetor adjustment. Going back even further, adjust or replace the ignition points and condenser. These modern engines have coil on plug (cop) distributorless ignition system (dis). They like to call it a tune up but it’s just plugs.

A simple way to know if you really need a coolant flush is to perform a coolant electrolysis test, very simple with a multimeter. A google search will show how simple a test it is.

If you’re concerned about a possible head gasket problem you can get your hands on a block tester. Maybe you can rent one. It checks, with the engine running and radiator cap off, for exhaust fumes in the coolant. I own one but very rarely ever use it. I usually see it with the reservoir boiling and lots of oil in it, pretty obvious. Your loss of coolant could be evaporization through the reservoir vent, unless you think it’s excessive. A pressure test would reveal a slow leak somewhere. A pressure tester you should be able to rent.

    The good old days!

Not. That was when if you got 100K on an engine you were setting records.

My father pulls into a gas station, leaves because 27c a gallon is too much, and it wasn't even "ethyl"

My first job was at a Texaco Station pumping gas and washing windshields. Gas was ~ 32 cents a gallon. I was 13 years old and got to look up a lot of skirts.

I was making 50 cents an hour. :(

Tune ups on modern vehicles (including these trucks) is just spark plugs, air filter, manual cleaning of MAF sensor and TB, a thorough inspection, and maybe add some fuel system cleaner. Oil/filter change and transmission service is commonly (not always) done at the same time according to most service schedules I have seen.
