Busted Bolt, Looks like it will be expensive

Well, While washing my engine cover, and putting it back on. i sheered off the left side bolt (facing the truck)

The right side bolt is still intact and holding it on, but i would still like to keep the cover and be able to have the left side bolt intact.

Any easy fix to this?

I may just buy the TRD CAI. That Wasn't looking at buying it for a while but now i may have no choice.

x2, taking the engine cover off will be your declaration of surrender.

 

I would call your insurance company, they may just salvage the truck and pay for a new one.

 

Easy out wont help much.. Isnt it actually a nut on a stud? Looks like he broke the stud off. What you will have to do is remove that brass thread insert and stud and find a replacement insert and stud. Just I would worry about cracking what the stud is in.. You may be better off just getting some dum dum and stick the remainder you broke off in there just so it looks better..

 

you guys are way over complicating this...there is enough of that bold sticking out, grab some vice grips and back it out.

 

yup x2 for the vise grips. Next time NO Locktite.

 

But its not a bolt. It looks like a stud formed in the brass insert. The best you will do is twist out the whole brass insert.

 

How would buying TRD CAI help with the bolt situation??? I don't get it.

As others said vice grips should get it out.

If it was me, I wouldn't even worry about it... The engine cover is a POS anyways, just take it off. Weight savings FTW...LOL

 

Can't really tell, dispite the huge pics, i have the 2.7 and my inserts like that have bolts that go into them, not studs standing up. However my engine cover is the intake on the 2.7 so it may be different.

 

It's a stud that i sheered off while tightening the nut, sorry for the confusion. And a CAI would replace the current air intake (which the stud is protruding from).

I will probably just go ahead and do that, gives me an excuse to give the wife anyway... LOL

 

Here's a pic from further away. I tightened the other side with some force and this one sheered off incredibly easily, it felt as if the nut wasn't even all the way on.

well if you want to fix it, easy way would be to cut the remaining stud off, drill a new hole and tap it. Then replace the stud with a bolt.

 

IIRC those studs are threaded on both ends - therefore you should be able to grab it with a pair of vise grips and unscrew it. I had mine out once before, and it was threaded on both ends.

 

For the love of god, please re-size those pictures, they are HUGE!

engine cover isn't needed...it looks better without it any way...the intake manifold tends to remind me of...ALIEN FACE HUGGER...lol
