My brother just had his 07 Camry die 25 miles outside of town. Toasted alternator. I let my supposedly more knowledgeable roommates (both probably know a lot more about auto repair than me) bully me into telling my brother his car was fine for a 5 hour journey. Last Tuesday my brother brought it by for a strange whining sound and I instantly diagnosed it as a dying alternator and ordered a Toyota reman for him.

That same day my two roommates were outside in the driveway pulling dents out of a truck. They walked over and investigated and said things like "no idea why you'd tell him he can't drive it" and "that car is fine" and "wait for more signs before you do anything" I argued and they kept shutting me down. So I said "alright man you can take it somewhere this weekend just if you see a battery light come on you lost the alternator, I'll get you all fixed up Monday afternoon when I get off work". Thankfully he was 30 minutes out of town on his way back not 5 hours.

I was right all along and I knew it the whole time. I feel bad for letting my brother take the car but I'm even more upset that I've let these guys push me into these situations multiple times. Going to bring a couple 24F batteries I have lying around in the garage that are charging now out there. I'll throw one in the Camry tomorrow morning and try to get back with just the batteries. Then install the alternator when it gets here Monday.

You have to roll around in sleeveless denim overalls with a straw hat and blade of wheat grass in your mouth at all times if you get one
