68101 is passenger side and 02 driver side

If it helps anyone, on Monday I will order aftermarket and OEM for both years and compare with measurements. But I’m pretty sure they’re the same. I can also give my vin for my 18 and my vin for my 20 and get pet numbers to be certain.

having had an 18 and a 20, the road noise is the same IMO. The true test will be when I have my lift and tires on.

I have no idea what glass company you work for and I will not mention the one I used, twice, to fix my F150 windshield (2x) but it was a huge national chain... and both times they kept trying to tell me Ford only made one type of windshield for the F150 in my year and trim.. which is wrong.

They have the standard windshield and they have an improved one to reduce noise. Ford has different stock numbers even and on the better one it is even laser engraved.. it is to reduce road noise.

How accurate are the glass companies databases? This one did not seem very accurate.

What year F150? And I assume you’re referring to the “sound screen” printed on the original ford part?

2018 Lariat and yeah, I think that was it. I know I had to call my dealership to get the correct part number to give to that company.

18 was a split year. But the difference being the way the camera for auto high beams/lane departure mounts. There’s several dif parts that fit that year/ trim but the acoustic inter layer referred to by ford as “sound screen” is in all of them wether it says it or not. There’s no difference in the sound deadening. It’s more of a placebo imo. This is a common question/complaint.

That might be it, when he brought the windshield I looked for the etching/sticker and it did not have it so I refused it.

Sounds like a way to just get more money for the same glass.

I don't know my 20 is noticable quieter than my prior turd gens were, including my 19. I don't think Toyota would take the time to mention it for it to be a false claim.

Yes and no.. the “sound screen” is trade marked and only comes on the original parts which cost more to buy and sell. The aftermarket that doesn’t not say it is the same but costs less. No different than Jeep owners paying double the price for the willies logo printed on the bottom corner of the glass.

I personally notice no change in Cabin noise but I’m not ruling out the possibility of noise reduction of some sort. I am going to get hard concrete data of Monday but I’m 99.9% sure the glass parts are exactly the same from 16-20

My 20 "seems" more quite then my dad's 2016 Limited... but that could just be my perception. All I know is my 2020 OR is very quite, ALMOST as quite as my F150 not sure what Ford does but man they make a quite cabin.

The Fords DO have laminated door windows. That’s the major difference

I hate saying this as I'm not a GM fan, but the brief 4 month ownership of my 14 Silverado, that thing was dead quiet inside.

Ya Dad's 18 Raptor is pretty damn quiet minus the exhaust drone / turbo spool every one and awhile.

Those laminated door make a HUGE difference. The silverado is pretty quiet too. Tacos maybe loud but look wayyy better than pretty much any full size out there.

Agreed, and the couple times a year I am stuck driving the Raptor I actually don't really care for it, just too damn big for daily driving. Plus I get those looks like oh look at this dude.

The official press releases for the 2020 don’t mention anything about thicker side windows that I can find.

Where is this press release? Their press releases are all on Toyota.com there is zero mention of thicker side glass anywhere. In fact this section of it

“Tacoma rides along quietly thanks to enhanced door seals, a multi-layer acoustic windshield, sound-absorbing headliner, and a floor silencer pad.”

Is literally copied out of the 2019 release and pasted into the 2020 release - it’s not in the changes section it’s just in the features. (Edit - that copy paste is all the way back to at least 2017 even)

What's New For the 2019 Toyota Tacoma?
The 2019 Toyota Tacoma is similar to its most recent predecessor in terms of performance, style, and technology. There have been a few changes intended to make the ride a bit smoother. The side glass is now a bit thicker, there's a little more insulation in the cabin, and the suspension have been slightly enhanced. The result is that the road noise is quieter and the experiences on the road are not so bumpy. With the engine, there's been an effort to make the truck more responsive. While the power has remained steady, a few tweaks have allowed the power to be more accessible across the rpm range, providing for more responsive handling at all speeds.”

This is just from googling and it’s off of a random Toyota dealership website. It’s all copy paste the side glass stuff isn’t new.

I'm interested, I just added a resonator to cut down on the cab noise just a little bit. Its a loud ride even with highway tires.
