Oxygen sensor confusion

Hi, I just recently ordered a replacement downstream o2 sensor for my 2001 tacoma (

$61 Denso 234-4189 Oxygen Sensor

Denso 234-4189). I removed the current installed o2 sensor and it has a Toyota number of 89465-04210. I researched and can only pull it up as being offered used by TLS Recycling and shows to be for 2016 year model. Can anyone weigh in on this? Thanks in advance.......would this have caused a code issue?

Sensors produced by Denso specifically for Toyota were numbered as Toyota designated.
Stick with Denso replacement

 

I understand sticking with denso, I was wondering why it would of had the Toyota sensor in it that has the listed part number.....it has been serviced by Toyota dealership for the past 15 1/2 years.

 

You have two sensors. Go to Denso Site and put in the year vehicle. I would replace both.

 

When I took out my original equipment O2 sensors I couldn’t make sense of the code on it either......Like others have said , and you did, just go with the Denso replacement.
It looks like the sensor has been in since new, why would it only now throw a code after all these years ? Because it’s worn out .....plain and simple.

I am not trying to post bs Black Dog Lila, I just purchased the truck and have all service records since 2005. The issue came up in like 2010, dealership quoted new cats as the issue. It had a code of p0402 , he never replaced the cats but the dealership charged him $283.00 for a new upstream a/f sensor plus labor. The dealership just installed upstream sensor on Feb 20, 2020. I purchased and light came on next day.......I ordered and replaced the downstream myself ........fingers crossed, so far .....so good. I just found it odd that the downstream Factory sensor came back to a 2016.......the nuts are sensor were so bad that it took a 11mm, and 10mm socket to remove a 12mm locking nut. Thanks for the feedback all, just a curious new taco owner.

 

I know I will get slammed for this question, but oh well. When I pulled the old o2 sensor out it was wet, does this mean anything to anyone?

Wet can mean quite a lot

 

It was wet with water, I replaced it with the new sensor..........so far, so good.
