carrier bearing solution?

ok guys, i have a 05 tacoma extra cab VVVVVVVV and i go through a carrier bearing every month.
its super frustrating to hear the squeak when im driving it down the road. i have the deaver j66 bolt on leaf pack.(1 1/2 in. lift)...... all i have done to my driveshaft now is a 3/4 inch spacer.

i understand that the lift give the driveshaft the wrong angle which shreds the bearing but my question is...

is theyre any solution that will make my carrier bearing last more than a drive down the block?

ive heard of getting a one piece driveshaft or having DMZ fab build a carrier bearing with a shortened driveshaft....but what really works??

any help would be great

 

Custom driveshaft could be built for your new angle.

Axle shims may also help you out, if that hasn't been tried. You may also try a carrier bearing drop.

 

thanks. do you know where i can buy these carrier bearing drops? and how big of a drop would be needed for a 1 1/2 in. lift?

Drops are a bit of a feeling out process. Not only does a lift alter the height of the driveshaft, it also alters the angle at which the driveshaft passes through the carrier bearing.

Usually you can minimize the ill effects of this by getting the shaft back pretty close to stock angles. Even with that, your carrier bearing will still wear a bit faster than normal.

The only true solution is a custom driveshaft...going to one-piece eliminates the carrier bearing entirely.

Toytec has shims and carrier bearing drops. Check out their stuff.

i have a CB drop bracket from him for my 1st gen, it's a great product and does wonders for correcting the drive shaft angle and add strength to the CB

i am almost 100% sure he's working on a bracket for the 2nd gen

OP, a little off topic, but you got any more pics of your front bumper?

 

I have the same leaf pack, and had 2* shims put in. There was a little weird vibe before the shims but it is mostly gone now, and have never needed to replace the carrier bearing.
I got my shims from Deaver, they are steel not aluminum like most places sell(the alum ones get bent/smashed over time)
