nada....maybe a license plate one day & BA bumpers
to start off, the check engine light/trac off light only stayed on for 5 miles of driving

lights came on yesterday as I approached kfalls to pick my dog from the groomer,
drove down to autozone next to have codes read
guy stated you have p0022 code (bank 2)

something to do with vvti function

like I mentioned above the lights are now off
I drove another 25 miles to get home after autozone stop
& the engine check light is still off
the truck seems normal & running fine

I am going to drive another 100 miles today & see what happens

I read a few threads on this, but I am kinda confused on what I need to repair/replace
    any help/advice would be awesome
    thanks TW!

drove 5k miles since the code error & all is good atm...maybe a fluke error code?
(code error only lasted 5 miles around 354k)
crossed 359k and fast approaching 360k

Hopefully it was a fluke, but maybe err on the side of it popping back up. Timing may have corrected itself, but could skip again.

likely an older VVTI solenoid that can be sticky, they have a filter screen too if im not mistaken that can get clogged. I wouldnt worry about it too much unless it becomes persistent. I keep a lil bluetooth OBD reader in my truck that i can can clear codes with my phone if something goes sideways.... ~ 8 bucks or so.

I keep a code reader in my truck so I can clear codes as well. It has become an essential necessary tool to keep at all times and has saved my ass from getting towed home countless times. Including on this trash heap of a truck.

Timing chain stretched. Very common on high mileage 4.0's.

It's pricey as there is a lot of components to replace.

1x Primary chain, 2x secondary cam chains, 1x primary tensioner, 2x secondary tensioners, 1x gear idler, 4x chain guides. Seals and gaskets, may as well replace water pump.

Search up timing chain's on here and you'll see its likely your problem.

Toyota VVT codes are usually different when the solenoid or cam phasers fail.

Pull the vvti solenoids out and check the screens.

I've dealt with these codes on other cars but not on my own truck. On other vehicles the solenoids are interchangeable and you can switch them side-to-side to see if the code follows.. if it codes again..

Not sure if the solenoids are interchangeable on these motors. Sometimes the orientation of the hold down bolt is different

update- (been busy, so this is a little late)
about 2 months ago I removed & replaced both the oil control valve filters (alternator side was a real PITA)
both were clean & like new
I did notice that the driver side/alt side one was broken on one of the plastic snap tabs
(it came out broken, I did recover the little broken plastic tap upon removal)
put a new one in on both sides, good to go yo

the code never reappeared after the initial time at 354k
Im at 374k now, error free
musta been a fluke moment in the life of a high mileage taco

    will update if anything changes
