Hey, is that your map? Would you mind sharing a better closeup of that SW corner covering this area? Thanks!!78CDD7D9-4A32-45AC-B21E-EA9A716F2495.jpg

Wow thanks! I’m going to end up buying the book later, but this is a great help since we’re going to that area later this week. I appreciate it!

It’s fine. Hey so what’s the yellow highlighting for?

I highlighted the cities and larger towns for landmarking/orientation. The roundish highlighting denotes placer production for each district.

Maureen's book is $12 on Amazon and well worth it just for the map IMO. Many other gold books for western states source her materials.

Great information, I appreciate it. We wanted to do more rockhounding in Arizona sometime, and will have to check some of those areas out as well. I’m going out to Yuma for a few days in a week for a family thing, might have to go look around a bit if I can get the time.

Very cool. This is a good time of year to visit the Yuma area. The Gila City and Muggins Mountains may be worth a look.

I don’t detect but did do a bit of fossil hunting back home. My biggest find was a 2” section of upper and lower jaw bone (including teeth) of a ichthyosaur.

Any how’s... came on to mention about a great tv show from England called the Detectorists. I thin it was on Nerflix or Amazon. Mackenzie Crook is the writer/actor and he is actually a detectorist too. Well worth a watch :)

I've heard of the Detectorist, but haven't taken the time to watch. Is "back home" Nevada by chance?

Get swinging then, you never know. There’s a guy on one of those prospecting forums that dug some pipe trenches on his Arizona property and wasn’t going to check it, but his friend talked him into it and he found some nice penny weight nuggets in the dirt piles.

Lol, I totally read that wrong. I’m still on my first cup of coffee.
No, home would be England, Poole. But fossil hunting was done on the ‘Jurassic Coast’ and especially a little sea side town called Lyme Regis. I was doing a photography project on the town and how most of it tourism is fossil based.

I’m now sipping on my second cup of coffee, so should be good to go now ;)

I had a gig once following construction scrapers and dozers around looking for fossils, that was fun. Most of the area I was in was old marine, so I found a lot of whale bones, very big ones. The vertebrae were as big as small stools you can sit on. They didn’t want those at the museum because they weren’t very diagnostic, so they told me just to leave them in the trench and let them bury them. I used to load them up in my truck and drive up to elementary schools in my area and donate them. Teachers loved them.

Interesting Muggins Mountains area looks really neat. I love a lot of places here in California, but Arizona has so much to offer for those interested in geology. If it weren’t for my wife’s job, we could easily move there. Oh well, I making the best of what we have here and enjoying our short travels to other places like Arizona. Besides, the Mojave here is still offering up a lot of surprises for me still!

Yeah that's big enough stuff to trip over! I enjoyed hunting as it's the excitement of finding something that no one on this Earth has ever seen before. I gave my little brother the only vertebrae that I ever found as a good luck charm as he was going off traveling for a year. It obviously wasn't a whale bone :) Since that first trip he has been on a travel mission all over the world and I'm pleased to hear that 12 years later he still carries that little rock around with him
