Wow, that's a ridiculous oversight. Best of luck getting it resolved.

I hope Toyota addresses this soon as well, since I'm thinking seriously about a factory rack on my 2020. I can't imagine they won't correct it. Otherwise, they'll have no factory rack option at all moving forward on the Tacoma.

Now I’m glad the sales guy didn’t give me the roof rack when I bought mine, hopefully they come out a solution because I’ll need one this summer

Was at the dealer today to get my first maintenance visit done, spoke to the service manager and they are still not sure what Toyota is going to do about it.

I am very crabby about this now. I want it fixed. Either a new rack, new antenna or my gasket and 400 dollars back and I'll get something else. (I'm now passive aggressively emailing the parts department to price out a bunch of upgrades that I'd purchase once this is fixed)

It's been 5 months and the dealer (who knows me as the "blue tacoma with the roof rack") says they are "working on it" but like... they aren't engineering. I love this truck but "ski and board on top" was one of the primary use cases I purchased this for.

Shoulda put a chargeback on the down payment. That probably would have gotten attention.

    GRUMBLECAKES.

edit: writing this made me feel better, sorry for the false hope I just realized may have popped up in anyone watching this thread for a solve.

I was at the dealer today to get a quote on a lift and spoke to the service manager again, two things came to light.

    1) Toyota has changed the shark fin OR the tacoma itself on production models starting in late Feb/early March
    2) Currently he is not sure what they did or how they will fix the ones already having the issue but was told it would be soon for the fix

If it's any consolation....Can you run a bed rack? It's better to have the drippings not go onto your painted roof vs. the composite bed.

So, they made a change to the shark fin on the 2020 (presumably to deal with the leaking third brake light problem) that interferes with the existing factory roof rack. Now they're going to change the truck AGAIN to solve the problem? Why not just modify the roof rack to work with the current change? It sure would be easier, and I presume a lot less expensive, than retooling assembly lines, issuing a TSB for affected 2020's, and having dealers perform antenna mods/replacements. Fucking Toyota. Reminds of an old Dilbert cartoon:

I would make it a point of getting screenshots of builds with the roof rack. Get summary prints of it et al. At some point, the may actually remove that option until they get things sorted out.

I have a Bakflip which I like, but this is the route I am heading towards. Doesn't change the fact that I have an unusable rack installed already but at least I am thinking that the KBVoodoo hi rise bars over the tonneau would at least FUNCTION.

Yeah, I'm not saying Toyota shouldn't take care of this - definitely an issue. But, at least you can make something work in the meantime.

-To modify the roof rack would reduce the size of the roof rack bars distance which could lead to stability issues for items being used on it.
-They modified the actual placement on the truck itself, they did not modify the fin itself. The PN for the fin is same from 2019 to 2020 when the service dept looked it up when this first happened.
-They redid the shark fin OR relocated back to the position it was on the 2019 on trucks with MFG date of Late Feb/Early March and after, however the TSB did not state which was done and was clear that prior builds still had issues

The service manager said a solution is close they are "testing out" different solutions on the older 2020 builds.

As someone with an engineering degree (not practicing) this thread makes me want to throw s**t... preferably at Toyota Corp for being greedy morons. Good luck to you all... remember Toyota's main job is to make money by making trucks/cars not the other way around.

In other words, a cluster f*ck. As far as modifying the rack, we're talking 1.5 inches at most. I doubt that's enough to introduce any measurable stability issues. It makes zero sense to me to modify the truck. Again. And what would the remedy be? Let a dealer relocate my fin? I don't think so.

    I agree.

However, if the worst thing that Toyota engineers have done is jacked up the roof rack/shark fin interference...I'll take it.

See: Ford/GM 10R80 class action suit in the F150, GM and the 8 speed in the colorado/canyon, RAM with....well....RAM. Nissan with radiators mixing ATF and coolant. Ford with the DCT.

This is a clusterf#$% but it's one I'll take rather than have my transmission eat itself apart because they used the wrong fluid.

So I JUST got an email from the services manager I been working with and he had this to say about the roof rack (not pasting the whole email as it contained other stuff I been working on also:

"I also have a bit more info on the roof rack concern. It seems as though a “production change” occurred on 2/17/2020 and from what a can gather is that the mounting position of the shark fin antenna has been changed. This unfortunately means that we may have no other choice for functional roof rack cross bars other then using a Yakima product. Exploring some options, I believe that we may be able to use the existing cross bar set up while in the stowed position, or, we could convert the roof back to factory without the cross bar kit, reinstall roof moldings and utilize a Yakima cross bar setup. I do not have confirmation from Toyota yet but I would suspect they will be reimbursing the cost of the factory accessory. I am still trying to confirm the answer to this. I do apologize for how long this is taking to figure out the solution and answers."
I am not sure if this is going to be just the locale dealership I been working with or an official solution from Toyota themselves.. I will keep this updated as I find out.

Well, at least he's working with you getting a solution worked out. Good luck! What I'm curious about is the "production change" date. Is he saying that 2020 Tacomas manufactured before 2/17/2020 don't have the shark fin relocated and aren't affected by this problem?

No the 2020's with a production date prior to 2/17/2020 DO have the issue, those prior to that production date had the relocated, in relationship to 2019 position, shark fin. Tacoma's with the production date of 2/17/2020 and after have the new "relocated" shark fin (I am guessing back to the original position of 2019).
