what does that button ECT do?

Ya, I have had my tacoma for almost 4 years and it been through alot and I love it. Always wondered what the ECT button does. I think it is the E-locker but want to know more.

ECT is not the E-Locker

it changes the shift points to assist when towing

Im almost positive that ECT stands for

Electronically
Controlled
Timing

It forces the engine to shift at higher RPMs allowing more horsepower per gear. generically used for towing or just a full load of people. sometimes i use it when i have alot of people in truck and it gives me some more power

but of course this negitively effects your gas mileage... maybe by one mpg

ECT stands for Electronically Controlled Transmission. When you push the button in, there should be a light on the dash that says "ECT POWER". This changes the normal shift times (based on engine vacuum, rpm, and throttle position) to a later point. This means simply that the engine rpms will go higher before shifting to a higher gear when you're accelerating. It helps build speed more quickly but uses more gas to do so.
