Also posted this on the 3rd Gen forum.

    https://kustom54lighting.com/16-19-Toyota-Tacoma-AB6-Retrofit_p_397.html

I'm pretty interested in picking up a pair of these headlights, however there's a criminally small amount of content out there showing them in action (product reviews, pics, videos, etc.). I've seen a few folks on Kustom54Lighting's instagram feed running them (ex. @runnin4tacos ), but am hungry to learn more from those that have installed them around what they think.

Can anyone share their experience or opinions on them?

I did, and am very glad that I did. This was my first HID setup and I’m not an electrical wiring expert so the installation took me about an hour to finish. Kustom 54 Lighting provides instructions which helped.

The light output is great. I don’t have any perspective around how these perform vs other HID setups however this was obviously a huge lighting upgrade vs the halogens I had been running.

Im in love with these lights cosmetically as well. I personally think they look awesome. The sequential turn signals are very smooth, the animation doesn’t look choppy like some of the other sequential DRLs out there. The black paint looks sleek. I also requested they build in passive demon eyes and I love how it turned out.

I don’t currently have any pics of the light output at night, can post more later on.712D8C82-5D14-4D66-9EBE-5F10B28756AA.jpg 3A8773F0-7972-4B1F-A7CB-C3E9CB32C4AC.jpg 1C980951-E224-4121-9B86-0ED31B1758C2.jpg D1E116FE-FF71-4872-9DE6-8E57D871D61B.jpg EB5CB6D0-A0B4-473A-ABF9-EDB0EEF85807.jpg

Nice, they look great! I pulled the trigger and purchased them as well. They should be arriving in a couple weeks. I opted to have an add-a-fuse installed though, since I don't like the idea of only being able to use the DRL with the side marker lights.

Yep, I immediately noticed that the DRL didn’t come on unless you flip all the way to the side marker/dim-interior-lights mode. I’ve managed this by taking 3 additional seconds to switch the head unit to ‘daytime mode’ during the day which solves the problem inside the cab. If it took more time or buttons to toggle that setting I’d consider installing the add a fuse, for now I’m okay with it.

Nice! Looks great! I think the 4runners still look better due to their shape of headlights

Also check out @MilkTeacoma on IG. They run these lights as well, I've been thinking of pulling the trigger on these as well!

Help me understand how you did this in more detail? I've taught myself more about wiring and could probably do this myself as long as i had a template to guide me. Where does the add-a-fuse show up in the wiring? How does that work?

My lights should be shipping this week. I will let you know once I get them installed. I believe instead of splicing the AB6 wires into the side marker, it just has an add-a-fuse attached.

How long did you guys wait for your headlights? I'm on about month 3 of waiting. They did offer compensation for the wait time but... Also didnt know that the headlight DRLs don't automatically work in the DRL light position. Awaiting your response on how you combated this to have the headlight's DRLs work automatically.

I was quoted a 6 week lead time when I purchased them, and I am now on week 7. I was told last week that my lights would be shipping early this week, but I am skeptical now knowing that you're 3 months in... They definitely should compensate customers that have waited longer than their quoted lead time, and they need to update the lead time on their website...

The DRLs only work when your headlight switch is in position 2, which is the running light position. Position 2 turns on your sidemarker lights, your tail lights, your fog lights (if you have the fog light switch on as well), and it will also turn on your interior display lights and turn your navigation black (for night time.) They operate this way because Kustom 54 believes it is easier for customers to install the headlights by splicing the DRL wire into the sidemarker light. I don't like this look/design at all, so I request to have an add-a-fuse attached to the DRL. This means that the DRL would turn on whenever I start my truck, regardless of the headlight switch position. Kustom 54 guaranteed this would work, or they would give me a full refund... so lets see what happens

My lead time was not very long. 4-6 weeks I believe. I'd give anyone the benefit of the doubt at this point due to the health situation going on outside our doors and the impact it can have on supply chains & ability to go out and source parts.

Regarding the DRL function, as I said earlier in the post i've gotten by without much trouble using them on position 2. However, i'm assuming you could go an add-a-fuse route and plug it into the fuse box somewhere? Is there a position in the fuse box that would trigger them coming on in position 1?

Position one being the DRL? If so we tried when we first tested the headlights and it didn’t work. The voltage being sent through the factory DRL plug would not activate the halos. We believe it’s because the harness had to be connected directly to the oem DRL board to send power through the harness. When we build the lights we had a vehicle in shop to test every possible way to hook them up. The way we build them now was the easiest way for our customers to do that install. Now we got the harness though and will make it public for anyone to get it for free when we build up enough inventory

Cool! I'll keep an eye out for the harness. Any expectations around how much time y'all need to build it up comfortably?

Honestly can’t say, do to all the craziness going on right now priority is people’s headlight orders then when we have free time harnesses. We will make it public though soon as we make a decent stock up on the harness to make sure all our clients can take advantage of the upgrade
