how hard is it to change a fuel pump? I don't trust the dealership to do it.

It's not about changing it, its that the design is defective.

They don't have a replacement available that will solve the issue. Ergo the whole notification, but "no known fix" yet.

I'm pretty salty about the whole affair. Love the truck, but I dunno if I trust it anymore.

yeah Toyota has lost me as a customer after this truck. I loved my 2nd gen. I regret buying the 3rd gen.

At this point the only options I consider a good outcome are either a buyback or replacement with a 2020.

Lol. Nope. It is however, my daily driver. My commute to my work is over 80 miles round trip 5 or more days a week. Plus getting around town etc. Etc. They just add up. Lol

They are not going to give you a fuel pump so you can change it yourself. They will sell you one, but the recall will still show as open for that vehicle.

I am glad I ran into this post
I have been ignoring the problem because I have not been stranded, however... NOW I read about possible fuel pump issues? seems my lazy ass can't ignore the elephant in the room any longer.
So here is my sincere transparent description of the issue. Sometimes... When I am alone... Oh wait that's for a different forum ;).

Sometimes... when I start my truck... only happens via remote start, a few times this winter it has a really hard time starting back up again after I got in the truck, engine stops, you restart and go.
Once it was so bad, I gave the starter a break, I am old school, used to keep a hammer in my old G-body style GM to whack the starter when it bailed on me. These issues are different, backyard mechanic brain confused.
Scared the shit out of me to be honest, I love Toyota's and, well just like you love your kids, or whatever, you let them have a few, sans judgment.
I am going to stay optimistic and assume I stumbled upon what seems to be my challenge as well, and the best part for the cheap emeffer in me, sounds like Toyota is going to take care of it?
    Hope everyones well

    TT

I don't like the dealer doing any repairs because you never know the work ethic or skill level of the technician(s). Some break more stuff than they fix. I worked in dealerships for decades starting in the 70's and I have seen it all. Most techs don't make a lot of money and as vehicles became more complicated, the industry started to shrink. This is a high turnover trade.

I am going to accept the fact for now that I think my truck is supposed to be gutless.

So this just happened to my 2018 OR (10K mi), at least I think that’s what caused the issues. I started to drive and the RPMs wouldn’t pass 2K. The TRAC and CE lights came on. Thankfully I was in a residential area so I was able to find a safe spot to pull over.

I turned the car off and waited a few minutes. After starting her back up, the symptoms persisted so I called roadside. It’s currently in the queue.

Funny thing is, the tow dispatch said he already knew what was going on. He has the same truck and Toyota had to replace the fuel pump twice. He recommended that I ask the service folks to test it for a couple days before releasing it.

Little bit of this and a little bit of that but stock af.
What exactly are the symptoms? I have been having some issues with starting the truck and I assumed my agm battery was the problem, as I’ve never trickle charged it since getting it around august.

I’ve had electrical problems where truck takes a shit on the freeway a couple times but realized after tightening the cable to the fuse box solved that problem.

Recently I noticed the truck revs higher and stays in gear longer when truck is cold but goes away after 10-15 minutes of driving.

I just checked and my truck is on the recall list but wanted to see what symptoms others are seeing. Or is this a placebo effect after finding out ones truck is on the list?

For my wife and I...fairly often over the past say 10 years, but we rarely sell or trade our older ones...our recent old ones we have given 2 to our kids (Tahoe and a GMC SUV) while others we have given to church members in need. Often I try to find about one year old with around 10K miles, but honestly at this point in life is my wife wants new, it's what I'll buy her. I'm looking for a car for my 16 year old now...I will not buy new for her. I'll probably buy her a Lexus Rx - 5-6 years old.
