Yup same here. I am sure it is probably a bad tire or they need to be road forced. But I didn’t want to keep going through bad tires. On the other hand the Falkens are riding smooth.

 

Interesting. My 285/70/17 C rated BFGs were like that. Had them balanced four times and still felt like the truck was bouncing up and down on the highway. Swapped to the SL 285/70/17 RGs and have only had them balanced once at install and again at the first rotation and they’ve been worlds better on the highway. I’m about due for another rotation and am looking forward to dropping the PSI down to 30 and having them road force balanced again.

 

I’ll do Falkens next time. The AT3W?

 

Yup. They are not an equal to the ridge grapplers off road ability. But I do 90% on road and my off road is fire breaks. It really depends on your driving but the Falkens were a good option for me. Good luck.

 

I dropped my PSI down to 30 and I will say, the tires feel a lot more forgiving and “soft” now. I do think one or more of them may be slightly out of balance so as soon as I get my new wheels on and have them road forced balanced I’m betting they feel even better.

I’m also convinced that a lot of the “harshness” I’ve been feeling in my truck lately has to do with my suspension. I’ve started shopping around for a new suspension setup that’ll give me a “softer” on road ride and paired with the SL Ridge Grapplers should make the truck feel as good as new.

im about to do a 1,300 mile drive from Albuquerque to Pensacola FL in 2 days. I’m debating if I should drop to 30 psi ... wondering how the mpg is lol

 

It’s not great. Lol.

But then again, even at 33-34 psi I’m lucky to get 16 mpg on the highway with the SL 285/70/17s.

5100s and 885s up front with top plate spacers on both sides to get the full 3” lift. Icon 3 leaf progressive AAL on the Toyota replacement pack with overload leaf in the rear.

And yeah, gas is only about $2 a gallon here right now. I was getting 17.5 mpg on average on the highway with the summer blend of gas last year, so I’m looking forward to when they switch it back. Winter blend is tough.

 

It’s $1.82 here in NM. I had 5100/885 set up before on my 2012 taco.. way better than Toytec boss imo

 

Dang, I thought seeing it for $1.98 yesterday was amazing for around here. It had been in the $2.49-$2.69 range the last few weeks.

And yeah, the 5100/885 setup has been great for the last 3+ years but I’m likely going to replace my suspension soon. With the SL Ridge Grapplers already helping my ride quality (compared to my old C rated BFGs) I’d like to upgrade to a progressive valved shock to see how much “softer” I can make it. The Bilsteins are digressive and tend to be more harsh over large bumps at high speed and on washboard type surfaces at lower speeds.

And since my truck spends the vast majority of its time on road (it’s my daily driver), I’m willing to give up some of the front lift if I can regain some more comfort on these crappy midwestern roads and highways.

 

I don't know. It says 16 on the display, but I haven't calibrated the speedometer to know it has different size tires.

from the pages i've read its quite apparent that these are pretty heavy. has anyone personally weighed out the 285/75/16 by any chance? americas tire is saying they're 73lbs and on Nitto's website they're saying 62lbs which is quite a big difference

 

I am in the same boat. Just put a set of 265/75R16 on stock TRD Pro rims and there is horrible vibration above 55 mph. Currently at 34 psig cold, I will try lowering and see how that helps. Otherwise, back to the shop and have them check balance and out-of-round.

What is the chalk test?

 

Did you have an alignment performed after/when you replaced yours? Sounds like you went from the 265/70R16 to the 265/75R16 like I did. I took mine in and verified/rebalanced. On the way into work tonight, they still had pretty significant vibration over 55mph. I am thinking since i increased the tire size from OEM that an alignment would cure the vibe issue.

Thoughts from anyone on needing an alignment or suspect a tire issue? I am sure these seem like stupid questions but I am new to trucks and changing tire sizes. TIA.

 

@09TRDSport4x4 did you end up dialing in your PSI with the SL Grapplers? Running my 285s at 40 and they seem a little to firm for my liking.

 

32 psi has given me the most comfortable ride. I bump it up to 36 when taking highway trips for “hopefully” better gas mileage.
