Where to buy Bilstein 6112/5160

I just ordered the Bilstein 6112/5160 setup for my 3rd Gen from Wheeler's, and they were able to give me an excellent deal - better, in fact, than any of those posted here. You should call or email Wheeler's if you're serious.

Excuse the dirt. Lol.

New suspension feels pretty good! Slight rake, I like it. Front spring perches set on 3/2 (driver/pass).

After a test drive with some 30 mph speed "humps," some swift turns, and one very acute speed bump at 20 mph, she seems to have settled at about .75 inches lift in the front. (Left front gained about .75 inch. Right front gained about .625 inch.)

EDIT: After a week of street driving and then a day offroad, the front settled slightly more. So my total lift with front spring perch settings at 3/2 is a half inch over the lowest stock measurement.

Driver side gained a half inch from stock and pass side gained a little less. That fixes the slight Taco lean it had when stock. The measurements from left to right match very closely now.

Both before and after measurements sitting in the same spot. 3/4 tank of fuel when taking the before (stock) measurements. 1/3 tank of fuel when taking the final after measurements.

Yeah, not much left of it now. Power washed underneath before this and the wheels. Rain cleaned the body for me. Ha.

Are the rear shocks the same whether or not you are lifting the rear?

First impression is I can drive speedier on road with less drama, plus it soaks up hard hits well. So far I'm gonna give it a thumbs up.

Yep. The 5160s give you an extra inch of travel vs stock I believe. You can tell in the pictures of them in the grass if you look closely.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the rears come with a spacer for the brake line bracket on top of the rear axle, driver side. Effectively "slacks" the brake lines slightly at full droop.

 

Nice, I’m strongly considering the wheelers kit they put on their Tacoma recently. But for now, I might replace the rears just to try and get a little smoother ride.

When are you looking for it to be smoother? In general, or a specific scenerio?

 

Mainly off road. So many of the trails have Little Rock’s that make it super jittery. Hoping to smooth that out. If it helps in 84 too then I’d take that.

 

I gotcha. I'll let you know how it feels after I get the chance to get off pavement.

On road I can feel more small imperfections in the road, but it's overall much more planted. Less body roll. Less brake dive. It absorbs speed humps very well so far and I expect it to handle potholes, manhole covers, storm drains, ect with ease.

As for the rears, I imagine they should handle being punished off road in that scenerio better than stocks.

I was pretty happy with my stock setup off road honestly. Airing down to anywhere between 15-20 psi was pretty comfortable. 30 psi off road was not comfortable. Lol.

I mainly upgraded to this setup because my plans include lift, larger tires, plus several people said how much more planted on road this was with the digressive valving, yet still performs off road.

Those things paired with the affordable price vs full out Kings, Icon, or Fox coilover setups...I couldn't resist trying these. I've had good experiences with Bilstein products before.

Yes very helpful. Figured it’s a 10 minutes job to swap out the rear shocks so probably worth it sooner than later. My plan is to eventually do that setup and upgrade to a 265/70/18 or somewhere around that size. I’m currently on 31.5 and run them around 37psi. Didn’t have an air compressor before so off roading was rough. Looking forward to getting out and airing down soon to see how much that helps.
