Why not just remove the center caps?! Or you don't like the look of the wheels without them?

 

Honestly I haven't even checked them out without the caps yet. May be a solid option when I get to them today.

 

Check it out and see how it looks. You might even like it, and it'll save you some "work".

 

If they have removable emblems , try squashing the tabs on the inside of the cap.
The ones on my FJ loosen up now and then.

 

Assuming this was directed at me... If it was the starter going bad, would I have been able to jump start it off another vehicle? Doesn't sound logical to me but I really don't know. I know you need the battery to start a vehicle and the alternator charges the battery after the vehicle is running. Not sure exactly how the starter plays into it all other than it's needed to start the vehicle.

btw - 3 days later and no signs of trouble returning but still nervous it won't start every time I get in it now

Moving is complete.
Just have to clean to old house .
Trash cans are overfilled and i need them emptied but trash pickup is Thursday.
Well.i could bring some trash to the new house .

Sister in law is our agent but first a professional cleaning .
I need to get the motorcycle parts moved out .
A friend is assisting ,and i have unlimited use of a trailer.

@KeithB Suppose it could be corrosion on a/the battery terminal(s). corrosion builds up, reduces electrons flowing enough vehicle won't start. Hook up jumpers & you are getting full juice into the circuit by bypassing your battery/dirty connection. Hooking up the jumpers can cause enough "trauma" to the dirty connection on your post(s) that the electrons flow again. until you build up more corrosion & it happens again.
...or it could be your starter is failing.
A shop can test the starter.

I recall as a lad when Mom's starter was failing, she would turn the key to run, shift the gear knob through the gears & back 2 times, then try again - that usually would work until she got it changed.
We had an RV that wouldn't start. The local shop didn't have the one we needed but gave my dad a piece of wood. "hit it here". We'd open the engine hatch, put the stick against the side of the starter, give it a tap with a hammer & viola she started up.

But start by getting a terminal cleaner & cleaning both terminals & rings that go over them. Put back, coat with 'battery' spray, anti-corrosion goop. Or next time it happens, give both cables to the battery at the terminals a good hard wiggling & try again. If you can see your starter, carry a long enough stick & a hammer.

The terminals were cleaned when I replaced the battery last year. It's only a year or 1.5 years old. I sprayed the terminals with anti-corrosion spray at the time of install and they still look like the day they were installed. No visible corrosion. Anyway, so far so good. Just the one time would not start. Been fine ever since the jump start. I did put it on a charger after the first outing after the jump. Took about 10 minutes to register as fully charged.

 

I didnt forget.
