Like abacall mentioned, I have my frame invisiframed so its not really an issue. My other bikes are aluminum and i dont care if the paint wears lol.

I just picked up new Dakine Tailgate DLX pad for my tacoma, will it be okay for a long trip to Vermont from Delaware with my bike on the bed with the Dakine pad on the tailgate?

 

You're fine. If I can do miles and miles of dirt roads and washboard without a hiccup on mine, driving down the highway will be fine.

If it makes you feel better put some pipe insulation on the corners of the tailgate. The RF pad had a section without padding and it was right at the corner where the frame rested.

I still don’t understand the tailgate pad idea. Don’t flame me, but put a 3k or more bike on a almost 40k truck doesn’t add up to me. I love my platform racks!

 

are you saying carrying a 3k or more bike in a 40k truck is weird? or carrying a 3k bike on a pad on a 40k truck is weird?

Potential? yes. Then again, I watched a dude dump 4 bikes off a northshore rack hitting a speed bump too hard, so YMMV

Nah fam. I have seen a few downtube rubbing paint issues but nothing that can't be prevented by wrapping your frame. There's a reason pads are the new standard

Do the pads have lock or just Velcro straps? Just wondering how you secure if you have to run into gas station and use facilities.
