Whattttts That Sound?

So its not that loud winding noise that I think you're referring to. If you listen close. Youll hear an intermittent, metal rattle/ scraping sound. I pushed the blades and as though I'm not 100% of what I'm really looking/feeling for. Though it was easy to move, there still was a little resistance the whole wat through. It wasn't just loosey-goosey.

No. The altenator is to the left of the power steering pump if im correct. This is directly underneath. Shit ill go take a pic. Didnt want to go outside. Lol

I believe that would be your A/C Compressor.

Yeah that's the AC compressor. If the noise is coming from that when the AC is not on then you might only need to replace the clutch. When is it noisy?

 

Its on whenever the engine is on. The ac does not need to be on for this sound to reoccur

 

When the AC is on does the rattling stop?

Okay, so the idea is, I'll try to explain but I'm not the best at explaining this stuff so if you don't follow its prolly on my end of explaining it lol, but the idea is the compressor needs to be driven/powered by the belt but the belt is on and spinning 100% of the time but you don't need AC all of the time.
So there is a clutch in the pulley that allows the belt to spin the pulley but the pulley is not coupled to the compressor to create cold UNLESS that clutch is powered on with the AC button in the cab.
So if the AC button is off and you have the venting set at dash and feet, the compressor clutch should be allowing the pulley to spin without any noises or issues.
Then you should turn the AC button on and the fan or whatever and listen for the noise. Usually it stops, because the clutch isn't being used to bypass, it's engaged and should be spinning the compressor and moving the refrigerant.
So that's out next step to knowing what we need to do here

Ok. Im 95% sure what youre talking about. Let me re read it a few times and im sure ill get it. But pretty much. Its making that noise because the clutch on the ac compressor is going bad so when it free turns you can hear the bad bearing but when the compressor/ clutch are engaged. The rattling should stop IF the problem is the ac clutch. Am i kinda on the same page?

 

I guess im confused on the "with ac off and vent set to dash. How would this stop the noise. My understanding, the noise will stop once the clutch couples the ac. But if the ac is off and vent is on dash and feet. How would this stop the noice if the comoressor is not on yet?

 

Because when set to defrost the a/c is on automatically.

Yeah what he said. I don't know exactly which settings the compressor is on by default but I know which ones they are forced to be off with, so that's why I said that
Defrost uses the compressor because AC removes moisture from the air

 

Yep, off and on. Then note the difference. You'll notice the difference, if it's there

 

A/C compressor is on when fan is on and select defrost with a/c button off and the a/c button will not light till it is pressed to on.
