So I took my truck into the dealer for the annual NYS inspection this morning, and a couple hours later I got a call from the sales department. They want to offer me a buyback price, since apparently there is demand for this type of truck. I haven’t got the number yet, but will report back. I find it a little odd since the truck is pretty heavily modified, including a high clearance rear bumper.

Just curious is anyone else has been offered a buyback from the dealer on their 3rd gen?

It's a trap..... take your keys and run. They are just looking to move new inventory and stick you with a longer payment schedule.
Edit... they offered me 22,500 for my 17 sr5 dclb

It’s definitely not a question of taking it; I know it will be a crappy offer, all told. But I find it really strange still that they’d offer on a modified truck.

They will buy anything they can make money on, they don't have them nice dealership buildings with a lot full of vehicles not making much money.

You are missing the point, they dont give a shit about your truck. They care about sticking you with a new truck and 5-6 more years of payments. $$$ in their pockets and out of yours.

I received yearly letters from the dealer I bought my last car from offering to buy it. I even got an actual written out email (with details I was surprised he remembered) from the sales person I bought it from at the 4 year mark saying they (the dealer) wanted to buy the car. Just another angle to drive sales.

As was said, it's a scam to try and get you into a new vehicle. You will get them from nearly every local dealership every time they're doing a sale.

That said, the 2018's are either in demand or my local Jeep dealer was desperate for the sale because they gave me $28k on trade for my Tacoma that was just under $34k out the door. That was including 20k miles and a damaged rear bumper so I basically got to drive the truck for about $180 a month.
