for second gens and 35's a lot of people recommend 4:56 for manual and 4:88 for auto

Dude unless you wanna compete in 5k or less a 10 min pace for a half is fine. If you're trying to get faster short runs in heart rate zone 4 3 days a week is money and long slow runs 2 or 3 times a week is where it is at. When I cared I was hitting 11:05 2 Mile 5 mile in 30:XX and did a half at a 7:20 pace then a half ultra at a 9 through capital state forrest. That being said I'm not 20 years old anymore and weight 20 pounds more than I did then.

I guess 2nd and 3rd are different too. Most 3rd gens are saying 4:88 on 35s feels like stock on 33s, especially with armor or a tent, etc.

Damn, 11:05 2 mile. My last 2 mile time in the army was 13:05, but I was sandbagging since we were running a 1 mile loop, instead of at a track and it threw me off.

Yeah, definitely not competing, I just feel super slow when I'm at above a 10 minute pace. Plus I'm always hungry when I run long distances...faster I finish the faster I can eat lol.

Trust me that isn't happening anymore. Long slow runs vs short fast use different kinds of fuel and work different muscles and helps with cadence. It varies from person to person but for me I found that my cardio should be the last thing to fail. You should be in muscle fatigue and working that system to work to get rid of metabolic waste. Way off topic but I had great results. Hard to maintain with a weird schedule but not as hard to get close again

Yeah, it's never my cardio that's suffering. My quads and glutes feel it the most on my long runs, but i do have about a 500' elevation gain on the trail I run on too. Cold (~50 degree) water baths help a lot afterwards too. Luckily I have a pretty flexible work schedule at a gym at work, so I do my shorter 4-6 mile runs during my lunch break 2x a week or so, and my long run on the weekends. Lost about 10 pounds since I started training too.

It just seems crazy to me that 5:29s are considered over geared for 35’s. My 91’ had the 3.0 5spd and 35’s and 5:29’s seemed like it barley got it back to stock. There’s hills around here on the highway I would have to go into 3rd to pull and still have to hit 4th after gearing it. My 96’ has 4:56’s 35’s 3rZ 5spd and it feels a little doggier than the 91’. Both those motors are around 150hp. I’m really leaning towards 4:88’s for my 34’s and if I don’t like it I will make the jump to 35’s. It’s definitely not a dog with the stock gears in it right now but it would be nice to put her in 4th and let her eat heading over the pass.

    Finally found some bike trails.

Maybe I’m just used to Colorado trails but the trails here are friggin hard! Everything is uphill. Even the downhills are uphill. Totally gassed.

Still had fun though. If anyone has some suggestions, I like exploring on the weekends. So far I’ve been to Duthie, Tokul, and Port Gamble Forest Heritage Park

Yeah man I hear you, I just turned 39 so I definitely understand not being young and fast anymore haha. Honestly to drop my times I have had really good results with running stairs, slight incline 100-200 sprints (never full 100 but good solid 75-85%, or hill repeats and also straight away sprints and jog corners on track after i have already done a few miles. Over the last 4 weeks I dropped from 845 pace on longer runs to under 8 min and 730ish on my 3-4 miles runs. I will be happy if i can get back down to 7 min per mile and hopefully keep that pace up to 10 miles or more as i also want to prepare for some local runs. But i also take my last APFT next month and after that change my routine for more of the new ACFT so a bunch of legs stuff before the run at end of test. So we will see if my body wants to cooperate and stay injury free and healthy.

Yeah man I miss those days sighhhh i used to be fast as shit on long runs and speed as I was a soccer player. But then breaking my leg and ankle and getting 3 screws slowed that down. I would be pumped to get back to 13 min 2 mile and probably could but i also want functional strength and like to lift. I have been happy with 7 min miles and still have strength as a good balance for me to maintain. Im down 12 lbs since I got here but i also didnt drink in feb and have no distractions and a wife feeding me haha. She gets here in June so i gotta lose it before then and get that naughty beach body back lmao!

The 2nd gen 4.0L has a bit more low end torque and as a result come from the factory geared at 3.73, the 3rd gens need a little more help down low and are geared at 3.91 in the AT and 4.30 in the MT so it makes sense to have to go higher to get the desired effect with bigger tires, weight, etc. This isn't to say that one or the other is better or worse just that with the different drive trains you are going to have to make different changes for the same results.

lol, this is why i got out (amongst other stuff). I run now, because I want to, not because I have to. I don't mind running far now, it's doing it at my own pace that's nice.

Where can I go to get suspension (coilover adjustment) and how much would I expect to pay? From reading up on this forum, there doesn’t seem to be a great consensus on whether they should be done on/off the truck...which would effect the labor rate.
