Mounted mine a couple months ago. No regrets except not pilot drilling the NMO mount.

Head unit is attached with double sided tape. Mic holder is upside down so I just pull it and it come off.

I am using a lip mount temporarily on my rear passenger door of my 2013 Off Road. Any suggestions on a tape or way to keep the antenna line tucked nice and close to the weather seal running down the side of the door? I don't have a picture at the moment but I am doing something similar to the setup in this picture. http://www.tothewoods.net/Comms/TruckAntInstall-07.jpg

This cable will allow you to plug in a Baofeng direct to the coax. I put a Tram 1/4 wave antenna on and it works quite well. It was $17 for the cable and maybe around $20 for the antenna. You can see it on the front of the cab roof.

Cable looks prefect. The tram looks like it's 70 only, and doesn't support 2m. Is that correct?

The one I have is at least a 2m 1/4 wave, cant remember if its dual band or not. I use it as a dedicated APRS antenna which uses 144.390, a 2m station

Not ready to do any drilling. I haven't decided on my plans for roof racks just yet.

You could do a hood mount or something in the bed. Won’t be as good but it will be better.

    I run a 1/4 wave tram

There's these little brackets you can roll up in a vehicle window that moves the antenna from inside on the radio to at least outside. I have one, an MFJ-310 with BNC connectors, and it works OK. It's not a substitute for a decent mobile antenna but it's come in handy to have around.

For example when you loan an HT to someone it's a quick and dirty way to get them an external antenna temporarily. Just moving the antenna externally at least helps, although it's in your window and lacks much weatherproofing for the antenna so it's not a long term solution and won't be much use for a mobile.

If you're not willing to drill holes a mag mount or sheet metal lip are your only real options for semi-permanent installation.

What a neat idea. That might work for now.

I am considering a ditch light bracket, OR a tailgate bracket. Not sure yet. I have a lot of plans for the truck that aren't fully formed yet. Don't want to do anything permanent that could interfere with them. Also, drilling into to my 2 month of very expensive truck just makes me queasy :D

    I'll get over it eventually.
