All jokes homes. I hear ya. I'm a heavy equipment mechanic and regularly operate loaders, excavators, and cranes
, ect.


But what good is a stress filled job like that without jokes?

 

True. Sometimes shit can get pretty stressful.

 

I should have expected everyone to be so pessimistic.

It's a #4500 rated forklift, will this still work?

I'm not forklift certified but they let me drive it after work in the parking lot so I know how this works.

Should I lift one side then the other or get right under it and lift the whole truck at once?

I might need a little refresher, does anyone have a link to some basic forklift safety videos?

Get up on that bitch. Go slow. If the rear starts to get light, stop. We routinely pick up 11k lbs w our 8k forklift, I think yours would pick the truck up. Extended forks? If not I don't imagine they're long enough for the whole truck.

I find it hilarious how age and experience changes perspective. The same shit that I once tried on a forklift, I probably would fire someone today.

Basically how my 5 minute "certification" went at my last job before they handed me one of these
she'll lift your truck up, just be mindful of fork placement

 

I mean if you want to do it because you don't have jack stands or a good floor jack at home I guess... or if you just want to because you can that's fine too. As long as you're careful it'll most likely go fine. But I gotta say, it would be easier, safer, and way less chance of vehicle damage to just do it the right way.

 

I worked at an auto wrecker for 10 years. I drove a Bluechip articulating forklift that was worn out and Mickey Moused together to move the cars around. The joint was sticky and if you turn it right, you could throw the car about 10 feet. There was no certification or training. If you didn't kill yourself you were good. Ahhh good times I tell ya! Good times.

 

Before I retired I conducted forklift training for our warehouse employees and not only did they have to read the manual, they had to watch videos on forklift safety, and prove that they were capable of operating the lift truck before they were certified. No rubber strap Certs from me!

 

Make sure to record it so that others know how to do it in the future

 

Another thought. I guarantee you won't get fired swapping your wheels at home. With how liability works these days, I'd be pissed if I were your boss and I saw you doing this on company property with company equipment.

Yup, which leads back to my previous point, of do whatever you want, but there's better ways to swap wheels.
