New Toyo Open Country A/T III tire

As with the cooper Discoverer AT3 4S, AT3 LT, and AT3 XLT, the compound gets progressively harder for heavier loads I believe. Just comparing the two SL versions of the 265/70 17, Wildpeaks at 14 and the Toyo at 13.3 tread depth and a 5 pound weight difference, I'm curious how much tread compound effects the weight and how many layers these Toyo's have.

Found them listed on a couple online sellers. Although they say out of stock they look to be about $170 for 265 SL sizes in 16 or 17.

 

Does anyone know if this tire has 3 peak mountain snowflake rating(3PMS)? It shows a 5 for Winter handling on Toyos website but I dont see 3PMS mentioned anywhere. I know that these rating are relative to the rest of Toyo's product line but I figured if it was a 5 that they must have met 3PMS.

 

Yes. He mentioned it in the video. Also noticed that’s the LT version in the video so the SL could still end up looking kinda blah if it’s like the last version.

Kinda weird they don’t. I’ve been looking at the Yokohama X-AT and these look very similar but 5 lbs lighter for LTs. Hopefully they make it to the dealers soon.

Total noob here just picked up a Red 2019 SR5 last week and finding out just how much fun I can have personalizing my truck. I had no idea this world existed. Seriously fell down the rabbit hole here! I hope I'm not hijacking here, thought this info might help someone. The truck came with 245/75/R16 Toyo A31, and they are not great in the snow, or wet it seems, and living in Canada we get a break on insurance if we run winter rated tires in the winter, and really they are just way better than all seasons when it's cold.

So... my local Canadian Tire had this Cooper Discoverer AT/W on sale for $119 a tire. Same size as OE. The price was right and I had Cooper Discoverer M&S tires when I owned a '06, and they were great, so I'm hoping for the same results this with these. We just had a major dump of snow and they performed very well. So far, so good. Winter 3 peak rated, 4 season silica compound tread.

The more I see these the more I think these tire manufacturers are just all copying each other. In these pictures it looks like a cross between a KO2,Wildpeak AT3W and the previous Toyo.

 

Found this picture of them on a Subaru so it’s probably a small tire. Now I know these have 2 sidewalls but to me this kinda leans toward the SL version being much more mild than the LT.

 

Still a good looking tire. Better than the Cooper discover 4s or the stock wranglers

 

Some people buy tires for performance and not sidewall decorations.

But kidding aside I actually want the sidewalk protection if I’m going to be running a more aggressive AT. But I guess that’s what the LT version is for.

Hoping this new ATIII is better than the ATII for ice and snow.

The ATII got an update near the end with standard load tires getting snowpeak rated, but it was the only real short fall of the tire.

Also no word if we will see the "extreme" come back.

 

Bump. I guess I'm going to have to go to the tire shop and look at these in person. Cant get a good grasp of the sidewall. Price is right tho for a C Load 285/75r17.

 

Just got the new AT3's on March 6th at Wheel House Center in Chino, CA (one of the few places that had them yet) to replace the stock Goodyear's on my new 2020 TRD Pro.
