I just picked my truck up from the dealer after having the rust prevention done. They always described the treatment as a spray so I assumed it was a form of a rubberized undercoating. After receiving the keys I took a look underneath and see what looks like white grease. E2C958AD-5B69-4596-9F62-25EE3D9B83B7.jpg232560C9-D72E-4D68-A52A-136B6AB1E2C0.jpg

The service manager assured me that this is normal. They plug the frame and shoot it with this grease like substance until it comes out everywhere. I even had huge globs on my exhaust.

Just figured I would share because this was not what I expected at all.

This is my first time posting on here so if this is in the wrong spot or if I have just missed this somehow and it is already posted let me know.

Yeah the goal is fill up the small space between the sandwiched sections of frame to preclude rust starting there. On the previous campaign for 05-11 MY they were using some garbage wax coat that did fuck all. I assume the 05-11 campaign was a bandaid to appease owners and also cover their own asses.

This new stuff has more promise in preventing rust where it is actually starting. These frames don’t typically rust out starting on the external or internal rail but rather in between. Hence all the added frame plugs now over the years. Like the large cap covering the opening to the boxed section of your frame. Lack of caps lets road corrosives splash up and in between the sandwiched metal.

Looks like someone took your poor truck to a bukkake shoot dude.

actually if that’s all in the frame rails I can see it doing a good job preventing rust. But isn’t this stuff dripping off. What if you parked on a 30k dollar driveway with pavers.

I hope that quote is the appropriate way to respond. Either way, they originally sent me on my way telling me nothing. After looking at my truck and thinking the same thing, I asked, and they said it will not stain and will dry/harden over the next week but also said Toyota recommends not parking in the garage. At this point it doesn’t seem to really be falling off but you can smear it. I park in the street anyways so I’m not too worried about it.

Supposedly it fills all the little cracks and crevices in the frame because that’s where the rust gets bad.

Also I might add that the machine they used to inject the stuff broke twice so it took longer than expected.

It looks like a thorough application job. Oozing out of the frame joints is a good thing. I live in the southwest and I want it done to my frame:)

Let’s hope Toyota finally gets the frame corrosion issue under control on the 4th generation Taco.

did you see rust on your truck? or you just did this to prevent any rust from forming? How much did it cost?

I have a 2017 TRD OR and I want to be proactive.

That’s insane. Toyota has known about the frame rust issue for how many years now?

My guess is the next generation Taco and Tundra (TNGA) will share the same frame rails from front to back and simply have different width cross members. I think this design would yield huge manufacturing and assembly efficiencies. Curious to see if the next frame will be fully boxed like some of the competition or a combination of boxed and open C-channel like the current model.

Ford recently showed the top 100 dealers a Ranger sized unibody pickup concept that will be released soon and sell for around $20k. The pickup truck war gets more interesting every year.

Ok goodie! Then it will just crack and fail instantly while out on the trail, you know the trail... the back mail entrance with the larger than normal speed bumps!

Nahhh, this one will have better suspension for absorbing the shock of those new speed bumps on the way to starbs

Toyota sent a letter telling me that they were going to offer this for free as a prevention to what they know is inevitable (Frame rust). They call it a customer support program. Like a recall before it becomes a true recall I guess.

Gee if they did, no one would buy a new truck. I don’t expect rust to never be an issue. It’s not rocket science. They could do better from the factory, just like they could have more comfy seats.

I spray my frame with biodegrable motor oil every year. It’s messy and few are willing to do it. But it works. I’m having mine done by our dealer this summer. But I’m still sprayin* it regardless.

Aka, it’s cheaper than replacing your frame in 15 years, so we’ll put this bandaid on it so it makes it to 16 years.
