He did tell the officer he changed lanes and hit me and that he didn't see me because of the other cars in that lane. But when he talked to the insurance company he gave them a different story

Request the police report and see what it says. If everything happened as you say, seems like he is at fault. You were already established in the lane, the other guy changed lanes into you. Tough to prove though. Need support from the police report or a witness.

I don't think there was a police report written. Would he have wrote it up then and given it to me? I have the officers name I'll call and see if he took one

If he told that to the officer, it'll be on the report. Contact the officer.

Usually they go write it at end of shift and you only see a copy if you request it. The insurance company certainly will request a copy from the station. You should be able to go down to the station during the daytime and get a copy once it’s complete.

I just called 4 stations before getting the right one. They have an incident report that just says there was an accident but no police report.

I believe the law is illegal to change before the intersection, in the intersection is legal from the last time i took driving class

Its possible it could be double fault accident. Him for changing lanes at intersection and you for unsafe turn

That’s strange. Well...ask to speak to the officer who filed a report. Basically you’re trying to get anything on paper you can to support the facts. You have to operate like a lawyer at this point. Get evidence. At the very least make sure the officer remembers the guy telling him he changed lanes into you. Don’t let time pass, the officer won’t remember much as days go by.

We'll find out. In the meantime I have about 2 weeks before hopefully getting my truck back. So I need to get a dash cam before that. I'm looking at the Thinkware F800 pro 2 channel. Anyone have one care to comment?

I called the station and talked to someone in the reports department. I just called my insurance company and left a message with the person handling my claim. I'll give him the officers name and see if he can get a hold of him

This really has me thinking twice about getting the SSO hybrid.. maybe just go with a avid offroad light bar instead. Would you purchase the SSO over again if you had the chance or did this change your outlook on the steel hybrid?

I love the look and function of the SSO bumper so I think I will be getting another one. I think in some situations you could come out with less damage from having it, with this particular accident and the angle I was hit, by having it definitely caused more damage. This is my first accident in 24 years of driving so :fingerscrossed: I don't get into another one

I'm not going to let this 1 accident scare me into doing something I enjoy doing, that is fixing up my truck and making it my own. There are a few things that I will be taking away from starting this thread and maybe others will too. 1, I know a lot of us put a lot of money into our trucks fixing them up, in the short time I've had it I know I have so I'll be upping my coverage for add-ons. And 2 definitely getting a dash cam.

if you’re in California, be prepared to pay around $75 or more and you have to go get it after calling first...usually take 10-20 days

Is my frame damaged? Had a minor accident, hit from the rear by a dodge van. The car hit me right on my trailer hitch and looks like it push it down. Now the bed to cab does not line up anymore (on the bottom the gap is small and on top the gap is much wider). It shows a gap as if the entire rear bed area is bent downwards towards the rear, by about an inch or so. See for yourselves. Any suggestions? It will most likely be a total fault by the one that hit me, obviously, she pushed me into the front car too, but I managed to pull to the side and the front damage is only on the right side, probably just the wheel fender trim and the clear bra. But the rear, the gate is slightly damaged, the bumper is a gonna entirely and is bent down and so is the hitch receiver... Airbag notice came on notifying me that it is malfunctioning and suggesting I have the car checked at a dealer. I can't drive it if I don't know if the airbags won't work. They didn't deploy, but that notice came on. 3 months old truck, 2020 Model. What a shame. Is it totaled? I hope so, because I can't drive it knowing that the CARFAX will forever blemish my clean car record. I don't want some shop pull and push and bend it all back. Well, they can do it, if they want to, but I hope I am going to get a new truck. My question to you is, now that I have been reading about a few incidents of a minor accident in the rear, is the Tacoma frame prong to bend when a car hits your hitch receiver? If it was not for the hitch receiver, it's just the bumper and the gate, and the front side damage is no minor... change out the fender trip and put a new clear bra section over that part and i doubt I would even need a paint touch up on the front.

The body shop will tell you if it's bent.

Sure looks like a slightly bent frame. If the last guy's experience is what it is (he's getting a new frame), I doubt they total it as it's piratically brand new

I'm a betting man, and I bet the frame would still be damaged and more of the front end too. Chances are the airbags would have also deployed.

But I am no expert in the field.................
