I have a lightly modified 2010 ACLB that has a slipping clutch when below freeezing. Very annoying at 25k miles... The truck is an absolute dog off the line. Takes a good 1200 rpm to take off without stalling or lurching. The slipping clutch is a bit of a known issue. The slowness is self inflicted.

So I'm in for a new clutch regardless, the question is if the heavy flywheel is worth it or should I go with a re-gear?

    Light modifications not helping:
    Bilstein 5100 @ 1.75
    Poly 5/8 top spacer
    2.5 AAL rear
    Falken 265/75r16

Light modifications that should be helping:
    Injen intake
    LCE street header
    2" intake manifold spacer
    2" exhaust (I believe)

Not sure about the 2.7, but i ran a heavy flywheel with my 4.0 and disliked it and ended up going back to stock weight. In low rpm situations it seemed to lug the motor down when letting out the clutch, plus it added to the rev hang, which i wasn't a big fan of either. The regear will entirely change the way your truck feels and would absolutely be the way to go imo.

You definitely don't want a heavier flywheel; just replace the clutch.

a slipping clutch below freezing eh?
is it slipping or just really slow to let out, like you let it out like normal and it takes its sweet time to engage / feels like Molasses ( I like to call that Semi-automatic mode, lol )
I get that with mine when its -10c outside.

Have you tried bleeding the slave cylinder? perhaps you got some gunk in there causing issuess. I bled mine when I did my clutch 2 yrs ago ( LCE Stage 1, Great clutch ) and the black nasty sludge that came out was suprising!!

Is the clutch pedal adjusted properly? IIRC, when the clutch "wears" the engagement point on the pedal goes "up" towards the driver, not to the floor. If your engagement point is really high "up" then perhaps the clutch isn't fully engaging and that is more pronounced when its cold outside.

the 2TR isn't exactly a powerhouse. I don't think adding a heavier flywheel is going to help, but that's just my opinion.

Another vote for regear. Owner of a 2009 RC never expereinced this, 165k. Northern Michigan

Honestly, with a header and all those other small mods and only 265s you shouldn't be having this problem im my optinon. Is your e brake sticking?

My vote is for 4.88s, then youll be geared to run 33s later if you want. Truck will be noticeably more peppy. Im running 5.29s, a lightweight flywheel, and 33s on my 2TR

Replaced the clutch in my friend's 2TR. He chose the LCE lightweight flywheel and the 6 puck clutch. He is extremely happy with the improved ease of acceleration, over the heavy flywheel that came out.

I recommend something a little less grabby than a six puck, if you don't need that torque holding capacity.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, just really curious. Does your friend "off road?" I'm curious what ( if any ) difference it would make with mild to mid range off roading ( no hard core )

I have both those issues. Feel like I really have to let it off to get it to grab. It will slip flooring it at 3000rpm in any gear.

I will bleed the slave cylinder and see what comes out. I will also check the clutch pedal adjustment. Hard to imagine it's worn much in 25k.

    Thank you for the feedback.

Negative. No off-roading. It is used for towing and carrying a decent amount of weight,in the bed, regularly. ~300+ pounds or so. He stated that it was more responsive with the lightweight flywheel, without having removed any of the weight from the truck.

Let me also edit, that the current clutch is an LCE 6 puck. The previous one was a Competition Clutch dual friction. No clue the milage on that one, as the truck was purchased used. The material on the puck side of that clutch was thousandths of an inch from being worn off. Whereas the other side was practically new looking. That clutch was slipping, thus the replacement.
