Some people like them thin and slender, Especially with those pizza cutters he is with right now

As my dad once told me; you gotta try out all the different types of bread out there to know which ones you enjoy (this is actually something he told me once, it is the most European thing i've ever heard)

Do you have any idea if blueing, in any way shape or form, is actually decent coating for metal that will see abuse/ taking hits on rocks? I've went out on a whim assuming yes, since it's used on firearms but it does rub away over time and use, but I'm as knowledgeable on this topic as i am knowledgeable in theoretical sciences... I know of the existence of it, but nothing more than that.

i know it'll look great, and from the photos you sent me, i'd love to do it correctly. Just need to decide if it's worth dipping into the again since i am debating currently to either epoxy paint it, line-x it, or try the blueing again.

This is the clear coat i used before it got pressure washed off

Blueing, Anodizing, Powder coating, Plating, Painting ... etc all are surface treatments ... none are rock proof. :amen:

Even as a daily driver it's going to take the occasional ding.

Nickle Chrome Plating is the hardest option...
but look at how the old car bumpers started to rust from micro pits over time...
Rocks could still scrape through it.
Anodizing you can't touch up from scrapes.
You can get touch up kits for powder coating but it does not hide the gouges from rocks....

Blueing / Patina with clearcoat you can touch up yourself easy enough.
If you paint I'd do it yourself and add a Zinc-chromate (yellow, but you can tint it black too) primer,
then either a 2 part Epoxy or Urethane, or even one of the high solids enamel rattle cans.
Easy to touch up is the idea. :)

For my sliders I wire wheeled them,
Used metal prep to etch the surface... (that's why your clear-coat did not stick, the surface was not prepped properly)
then the Zinc-chromate primer, high zinc high fill primer then I used a 2 part Epoxy.
The after a year of car doors hitting them, sliding over snow banks and the occasional off-road small treck....
Lots of areas where it had been scraped down to steel...
Said f'ck it and took a sanding pad to them by hand and roughed them up and took a BRUSH and just used black Tremclad :annoyed:on them.
Figured it would hold them until I re-coated everything at the same time next year,
Held up about the same. :notsure: So Tremclad seems to be better than most would give credit to.

The E-coating on my Warn bumper is already showing wear and it has not hit any rocks seriously yet...
The E-coating on my Back Rack is all scuffed to crap from ladders and straps... and the back-rack cover adapter for it is starting to bleed some rust from a corner in it...

I'll probably do the "Tremclad-dab" touchup this spring as I don't have time to take everything off and do it the "ideal method"
    (-sandblast
    -hot dip galvanize
    - Ceramic Powder Coat)

But even that won't hold up to rock scrapes over time, so I'll colour match it to something easy to get off the shelf in a can or rattle can...

Yeah i'm expecting things to rust, that is absolutely unavoidable in our climate. but wasn't expecting the rate that it did over the last 4 months towards the front bumper.

    Mid November:
Used Outers Gun blue (it was on sale for like $3, regular $11, for a 2oz bottle, thought it would be decent enough) cleaned the surface with 99.9% isopropyl alcohol before applying 2-3 liberal coats of the tremclad clear.

    Last weeks meet up:
    upload_2020-3-11_11-33-13.jpg

but yeah, i 100% fucked up the metal prep between the "blueing" at the clear coats, i aware of that. That is what i want to redo/ undo, i don't mind that Rat-Rod-Rust look that's going on as that usually gives it some personality, but i'd rather clean it up and make it look how i wanted it to look in the first place with some durability to it, at least enough that a pressure washer doesn't blow off half of it.

It's also why i'm asking if it's even worth the hassle and money at this point (to re-blue and clear coat) as i know i'm stripping it down to bare steel. Don't want to strip it all off again because next year since the rebluing lead to the same result as it is now.

As @tacoma16 mentioned when i spoke with him a few weeks ago, is that he enameled or epoxied his bumper and just touches it up over time. simply just patch and move on, which is the other option i'm looking at as well.

I'm building a "me" car and not a SEMA Show car :bananadead:

Sandblast it and either throw some rustoleum or Have it epoxy coated. My bumper is in pretty good shape after years of rocks and what not. Only rusted where it has hit rocks or where I had to reweld it.

ended up editing during you posting but that's why i asked if it's worth even doing the bluing and clear coating again.

if it's not worth my time, i'll just go with your recommendation as we spoke 2 weeks ago about it.
I'm ok with patching it up as it gets damaged
