What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

You are right... not sure what, exactly, cpo stands for, but I've bought a bunch of stuff from cpo-bosch in the past. It was all certified refurbished... some of it was even just simply resold return items that were good as new.

 

CPO and I only know it from working at a dealership service department years back but CPO is 'Certified Pre-Owned' at least that's what it means in the car business, I just assumed the same here

 

I'm assuming the same thing.

 

Pretty happy with the Monroe coilovers installed back in January so I ordered Monroe shocks for the rear. Got dented box specials on Amazon so tax tag and title out the door was $22.00 for both sides.

 

Alright I'm a few days late with these, the Little Black Truck received some attention this past weekend.

Big ups to @Turbodb for selling an affordable brake line set for the Tundra brake swap, and BajaTaco (is he on here too?) for posting his e-brake bracket for our fabricating pleasure.

Installed 231mm Tundra calipers, rotors, pads, as well as hard lines and new SS brake lines and a new bracket to hold them to the spindle. Job was quite straightforward, bolt holding one of the old brake brackets to the spindle broke so I had to drill it out but managed to save the threads and retapped them. Bleeding the brakes wasn't bad either. Frankly, everyone should do this, it feels like I'm driving a sedan now in terms of ability to stop, barely using pedal travel, amazing.

Painted my messily fabbed e-brake brackets to lift the cables off the leaf packs, and it works!

Changed out transmission fluid with Lucas syn gear oil and she shifts nice and smooth now.

I took off my skid and spent $20 in quarters at the local spray and wash, $19 of which was spent washing under the truck, $1 on the actual body.

Polished the entire thing with rubbing compound and then hit it with turtle wax, all this time my paint has been yearning to sparkle, and I didn't even know it could. And now I'm working remotely out of Tillamook and camping on the beach so everything is awesome.

 

I'm getting new ones with my Alcan springs. I've always replaced the U-bolts when changing springs, but I will admit I've "re-used" them before when I've taken them off to install bump stops and and AALs. Never had an issue but I've never had one set of u-bolts for more than maybe 2 years at the longest.

I'd def change them with new leafs, but doing things like bumpstops and other leaf spring "add-ons" is what I was curious about.

 

just make sure they don't appear to be bent or anything like that, if they are then I'd replace them

 

Mine rn are fine, but I ordered a spare set just to be safe

 

Painted the mud flaps a couple days ago. Today I gave the leaf springs a workout. Picked up a load of mulch at the local supply yard.

 

Are they gonna send you new ones? They sent me bolts that were the same length as the stock ones barely worked

 

I want my ADS shocks to have a bit more rebound. Thinking of adding more nitrogen first to try. I think I’m running 160/170 now. Anybody have a recommendation on how much I should add to get a improvement?

 

Have you talked to ADS yet? They may have some recommendations.

 

Speaking of ADS I just put an order in today for a set of their coilovers! For what its worth though headstrong told me ADS is going through a price increase on the 15th. In case anybody is on the fence.

I would contact ADS to confirm the pressure they recommend. King uses 150psi and Fox is 200psi

Replaced a leaf spring some months ago. O'Reilley's brand. Started squeaking pretty soon thereafter. Found it today. Front end of the leafs where they overlap. I had assumed it was the shackle bushing area, but I was wrong. Probably going to be a monthly maintenance item.

BTW, the spring was about $180, and I only replaced the left side (original broken). Ride height match right side perfectly. Of course, big advantage was no shipping costs.




PB Blaster lithium silenced it immediately.

 

Ive played around with the psi on my icons to soften it up, more pressure will most likely stiffen it up but the best way to get a faster rebound is to adjust your shim stack. It probably wont hurt them to add more psi.

 

Are there pads between the leafs? If not they’re not too hard to add.
