TRD PRO Skid plate is it worth it?

    Im wondering is a TRD Pro Skid worth getting over an aftermarket one? They seem to be about the same price?

    It's 1/4 aluminum and well built. That being said, if you plan or maybe plan to run full skids in the future you will be limited in your choices if you go with the TRD Pro skid plate.

    IMHO, if you want some aesthetics and/or protection from some light offroading, get the TRD one. If you think you might want to run full skids in the future then get another brand AND reconsider aluminum. If you think you will run full skids just get steel.

    Mods? Yes.
    I like mine a lot buuuuutttt....

    If you're going to drop the cash and you really do plan to off road and hit it, get a steel one that goes further back and protects more bits. Steel slides easier but then again, it doesn't have as much corrosion resistance

    I'm just worried about weight with getting a steel one because its also going to be my daily driver. I'm looking to do mostly camping with it in the south east USA. The aesthetics are a plus but not whats most important to me. Id really like to keep the weight down and keep the corrosion resistance.

    So there aren't many aftermarket mid skid plates that work with the pro skid?

    Pretty sure the RCI Mid skid is compatible with the pro skid, and they do make an aluminum configuration.

    Pro skid is probably fine for you. If you like playing in the rocks at all, get steel. I have the pro skid and its all bent up. Replacing it with a full set of steel skids from SOS concepts.

    I'd go steel aftermarket. Pro looks good but if you can get a nice thick steel skidplate for the same price or less.

    I went with RCI aluminum front and transmission. I’m almost positive the RCI transmission plate can slide the price under the TRD. They have little black bushing which add space.

    I like my TRD Pro skid plate. I bought mine, not so much for added protection (which is a nice positive), but to allow easier access to the oil filter.

    I second this. Get it if you like the look. It’s not necessary for what you do, so if another looks cooler, get that one.

    Mines been bashed an now dented and I consider it light off roading. If I was serious about beating my truck off the pavement often, I would go steel and not care about MPG's.

    Little of this, little of that.
    I’ve been researching this as well. I wish they still made one that didn’t have the red lettering. It might just be me but I feel like a poser driving an SR5 with anything that says TRD. But if it didn’t have the lettering, than maybe I won’t feel that as much.

    Does anyone know if the red would be able to be peeled off or removed easily?
