Things can go wrong with any mod. Spacer lifts are actually quite common (not just with Tacomas, but with trucks in general) and as long as you know what you're getting and what you're not, you'll be fine. I'd be willing to bet that 85% of leveled trucks achieved that level with a spacer.

 

Yes as long as you aren’t using truck hard and bottoming out the front end a lot. Regardless of what people do it doesn’t make it right. When you lift using spacers no matter what the bump stops need to also be spaced down to ensure the shock won’t be the bump stop, but the upper control arm will be the limit strap which is never good. That’s why smart people don’t recommend them.

 

You have watched the video about the guy on the radio wiping his a** literally with his hand and using the toilet paper to wipe his hands. Just because people do things a certain way doesn’t mean you should.

 

Spacer lift. Might as well use a set of these.

 

Hay OP, I did this for about a grand.
Sold it for a fair price and stepped up to KINGS and a few other mods. Alignment tabs and rear spring hangers will bend if you seriously wheel your truck.
These trucks are great right off the lot, but when you start lifting and using them, all of the little gremlins start showing up. Shit gets all bent and you will have a hell of a time keeping it aligned. Good luck.

 

Don't act like most people are using their trucks to their maximum capabilities. These trucks are fine for most needs in stock spec. Folks fall into the trap all the time of way overbuilding their trucks. Which is also fine. Your money, your choice. I'm not WAY HARDCORE, but I like to hit the trails sometimes. My 1.5 front spacer has not impacted performance in any way either on or off road. Sure some people need upgraded suspensions, but y'all know most people just WANT upgraded suspensions.

 

That's a super solid build and looks fantastic. Definitely a great upgrade. That's also more than 98% percent of people will ever need.

 

I’m not acting any sort of way, I’m simply stating facts about spacer lifts. They are fine for street driven trucks, or very light Offroad. But there is a reason for bump stops and the way they are set up from factory and as soon as you space the shock down with a spacer on top in the event the truck bottoms out and (In my opinion that’s pretty darn easy) guess what happens? The bump stop is not taking the force like it should and your coil buckets and shocks are taking the force in a hard bottom out. It’s simple math. The most spacer height you can add without worry is about 1/4” to 1/2” on top of a factory shock.

 

This is so true. Those pictures of the failed stock shocks because of #spacers are passed around all over and it's kinda funny. I have spacers right now, with no problems. The owner had them before I purchased the truck. They've been on there for 12k miles. No issues. Litterally thousands of trucks have spacers. Nothing wrong with spacers as long as you don't miss use the truck with it's lift.

I just ordered what is like to say I'd like to call the icon stage 4.5 that I pieced together. I just used different UCA's. I went with JBA because of the travel in the joint and ease of changing the balljoint itself. It's bolted on not pressed in. I know that what I'm going to do with the truck is more than what a spacer lift can handle.

There is no one size fits all suspension. For most, a spacer lift is fine!

For some, spacer lifts should be avoided. Op has to decide what lift will fit his needs.

Op, if your looking for pics my truck is lift 2" in the front and 1.5 in the rear with spacers. Currently it has 265/70r17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers. This is not quite a 33. 31.61x10.43 is what that translates to. I think it looks great.

This isn't what happens because it's a spacer lift it's what happens when you have a spacer lift and no extended bump stops. This guy obviously came down super hard and blew out not only his shock but also the top mount. I have a 6" spacer lift with the diff drop and bump extensions on my Tundra and I've never had a problem. I have King 2.5's on my Tacoma but that's whole other discussion and a whole other ride

 

Spacer lift. Lol,,,,what a pile of shit. Why would you put that crap on your $45K dollar truck is beyond me.

I've got 33" skinnys on mine. 255/85/16's. 3" OME HD lift front and rear. SPC LR UCA's. No trimming required.
