A gentleman at my wife's work who has invested since he was extremely young and is getting ready to retire this year is in the net loss of a 6 digit figure as of now.

Yeah this is tough for the people about to retire. My parents are looking to retire in the next 2 years. Luckily they moved a lot into bonds before the real big drop.

I'm down 10% for the year on my 401k, it blows. But it'll come back and there's plenty of time for me to recover it. Won't be the last dip my 401k sees by any means. I am debating moving up a couple month's of auto deposits into my investment account, just trying to figure out when so it doesn't take too big of a hit immediately.

Yeah I upped my contribution yesterday :D

That sounds like he maybe had poor planning - that close to retirement you should be in bonds, not that heavy in the markets.
    https://money.cnn.com/2018/03/07/retirement/safer-retirement-portfolio/index.html

Most 401k plans you invest in a stock named for the planned year of retirement, for example I'm invested in a 2060 plan (I hate to think about 40 more years :censored:), as that gets closer then the plan will "automatically" switch to a more bonds-heavy portfolio. Same with my Roth IRA, I'm at Betterment but all the robo and manual advisers will transfer to bonds over time as you edge closer to retirement. If you DIY it in Vanguard, that's up to you, that's fine, but know what you're doing - I work with a few people who are nearing retirement who all are still fine and haven't posted losses, let alone 6 figure o_O

and then say "Shit...I should have waited..." I've been buying VERY long options...and not looking at anything I own...or at least trying not to. I CAN'T BELIEVE the discount on some stocks right now. Completely unrelated to anything associated with Covid...

The only thing I hate about those plans is sometimes they have a high management cost...basically taking advantage of people using them to properly allocate investments for an extra 0.5% fee...when you could mimic their exact strategy just by reading the prospectus and investing as such...

The majority of it is in bonds. I've talked with him before. He hit his retirement package years ago, and has a separate more aggressive portfolio, for his age. It's actually pretty similar to mine. I guess that's the concerning part for the rest of us.

Being in my 30s I'm just letting it ride and not looking at all. We have our own sector in fidelity that handles GE employees so I just put my blind faith in them. Haha for now.

Yeah, mine's at Vanguard in a Target Retirement 2055 mutual fund--realistically, I'd probably either retire or start working part-time somewhere between 2051 and 2054. It starts out as mostly stocks and shifts to bonds as you get closer to retirement. At the moment it's down significantly, but if this happened when I was closer to retirement it shouldn't be as risky.

YEE HAW down 8.5% already today. Yeah mine's way down too. Time to reup and buy more. I would re-fi my mortgage but I'm already at 4.25%. I'll to the top level and look and see if it's worth it to re-fi but might not actually be worth it.

Just my 2 cents. When my father got his done on his 05, they replaced his leafs and other parts of the suspension except for the shocks and struts. There are a number of people selling there stock suspension on TW for cheap that is newer and better than yours. If you need to take anything off or help putting things back on, you live right in CT and most of us got your back to help you out. A new truck payment is going to be a huge monthly expense and you getting back into it now and able to keep up with it, it should not cost you the 3-4 grand you were thinking. Getting a new stock exhaust on rockauto should be affordable. The truck should last you another 100,000 miles after the frame replacement. BTW, we are putting on a huge event in Ludlow MA on Aug 15th this year....would love you to attend.....

I don't pay much attention to mine anyway; at 35 retirement's still a loooong way off.

I had WeatherTech mats in my 2013 and thought the fit wasn't quite as good as they had touted. The fit in my 2016 is just plain bad. The fit around the lower cover near the fuse box isn't close. The 2016 stupidly doesn't have a passenger side attachment point so I used Velcro to hold it down, but even then it's kinda meh. I went with the Huskyliners in the Jeep, whichever one was more of a rubbery mat than a hard plastic liner and was very impressed. I'll go Husky in the future, I think. I got my front mats on CL brand new in box for $50, so it was worth it.

For me it was the lack of manual, lack of targa and lack of the big dumb wing that ruined it for me. I know the big dumb wing can be had in the aftermarket and I'd do it immediately if I were to get one, but the lack of manual kills it for me. I get that it's got better economy, higher performance, etc, but the involvement is where it's at for me. Also, I'm a sucker for targas.

I'm home with both kiddos today and tomorrow. The bigger one spiked a fever on Saturday and I was home with her Monday and Tuesday since because the wife had maternity leave this year all her sick time is gone, so if she stays home it is without pay. She ultimately stayed home on Wednesday because I didn't feel right missing a week's worth of work. The little one got booted from daycare and it turns out they've both tested positive for the flu. I'm trying to balance both of them and it's not so awesome, especially because I'm sick to boot. If I were a betting man, I'd bet I've got a mild case of the flu myself. My wife was pretty KO'd last week but powered through it because she just assumed it was a bad cold, since we both had the flu shot.

I'm over looking at my retirement fund. I'm in the midst of refinancing my house, so that helps at the moment.

Mine's 4.375, I think. The 15-year rates are appealing right now, but I hate to spend money on closing costs again just to probably sell in a few more years.

The rates are ping-ponging a ton. It was 2.875% when I told my loan officer I wanted to lock, it got rejected as they were in the middle of an adjustment so he emailed me and said it was at 3.125%, by the time I called him 15 minutes later it was 3.375% and then it went back down, so I ultimately locked at 3.125% with the closing costs rolled into the principal. With the cash out of my existing escrow and having already paid my house insurance in full, I'll likely make cash out in the deal. The shame was at 2.875% if I looked at time already paid on the loan and total cost of the new 30 year, it would be $300 less, whereas now it is more. However, over 30 years (if I want to look at it that way) what I'd pay versus my savings per month, it still helps out a lot.

I actually considered making the next jump, but the economy's so fragile I don't want to suddenly be out a job either.

Yeah I did out the math and I could re-fi from 4.25 lower, over the next 27 years I'd save a lot, but if we end up moving in 1-3 years, then it wouldn't be worth it anyway.

Interest rate isn't final until about 15 minutes before you sign your name, at least when we bought out house (Sep 2017). There are people with old, old 30 year mortgages looking at 10%, etc. that would be worth it, but for me...meh.

I'm worried about layoffs too. I feel like I'm safe with my position/time in, but the verdict comes from way above my plant. At that point to corporate HR I'm an employee number, age, and race.
