    Right . Not everyone needs a 4x4. I won't ever use it.
OP, take a test drive on both 4cyl and a V6 THEN decide. I have both. My work truck is a 4 and personal a V6. On the 4cyl, I'm constantly using the ECT button because of the lag in shifting. The V6 is smooth shifting contrary what people on here say.

My fiance has the 2019 4cyl... although it gets great gas mileage, I think the power is crappy and the shift lag doesnt help much. As the member above me mentioned, the ect button is in constant use when i drive lol. As you can see I also have a 2018 OR and I prefer the 6cyl. over the 4cyl. even if Im giving up 1-2mpgs (this is when my truck was STOCK lol) Im lucky to get 14mpg now. Either way, youre getting a good truck at a decent price... I would go negotiate the 6cyl down a few thousand (thats if you like to argue with the salesmen like I do lol) As for the 4x4 debate, man thats totally up to you but I like to have and not need than need and not have (in the event you decide you want to off road a little bit)... Good luck on the purchase

Yup. The price of gas has been pretty stable for a long time. Toyota is going hybrid available everything in next five or so years. Gee, you maybe able to get a Tundra that gets 25 plus mpg.

Drive before you buy. That’s probably all you need to know if you are ok with 4 cylinder. Don’t be like most the women in my family and get a car without test driving it and then to add to it they have to complain about the car in front of you when you told them to drive it first and they didn’t listen and then if you ever bring that up they get mad at you for their mistake. And then you commit murder suicide because you can’t handle their extra-ness.

A little crude, but funny and closer to the truth then many care to admit. ;). Most women around here drive the dreadfully slow Subaru’s.

Just my experience with both 4cyl and 6cyl. I have 2017 Sr5 2wd 6 cyl. Driven daily since 2017. Got hit in rear and while in shop they rented me a 2020 sr5 2wd 4cyl. Was night and day difference. 2020 4cyl was so much noisier, engine wise. Like sucking/blowing air noise was so much louder in the 4 banger. Like it was struggling all the time. Although for normal flat ground driving, it had good torque. But any hill, it struggled, even with just me in it. Which is understandable for a smaller motor. But I couldn't get over the noise difference. The 2020 4cyl was like I was driving with all the windows cracked open all the time. This rental only had 1000 miles on it. Couldn't believe how much louder the 4cyl was inside the cab.

Lot's of 4 cylinder Tacos out there. It will get you where you need to go, and probably last for many years.
Test drive it. Take it on the expressway. Etc.
IMO 24K is a good price for an SR5.

I had an 2006 I4 Access cab, and I thought it was gutless although I got 25 mpgs consistently. I upgraded to a 2009 V6 SR5 4x4 DCSB, and I got 20 mpgs consistently bone stock. I went from 29' tires to 31" tires. Loss 2 mpgs to 18. I added armor (bumper, sliders, roof rack) loss 2 more mpgs down to 16 now.

I say think of your intended use: If it's going to be a city truck, Keep it an I4. If you're going to make it a lifestyle truck for hiking, camping, offroading, get the V6.
