Yes but your ELO I "think" remains the same. So SBMM will still put you in the groups that match your skill from seasons past. Good luck ;)

Hmmm, guess I'll find out tonight. Fuck it, I'm getting a lot better now that I am starting to memorize the maps and from your schooling me with the video you sent me on how to get kills with a hand cannon.

So my armor is now set up for trials. We farmed the 980 NF about 10 times last night and I picked up 7 Ascendant Shards on top of the 5 that I already had. Also picked up a shit ton of prisms so I was good to go. I was kind of worried since I had masterworked all my armor last season before I found out that we would be able to change the affinity of our armor this season. But changing affinity wasn’t bad at all. Now I have Enhanced Hand Cannon loader, Enhanced Sniper Rifle Targeting (really curious how that’s going to work), Enhanced Unflinching Sniper Aim, And Rifle Targeting to work alongside the Enhanced Sniper Rifle Targeting but also works with Scout Rifles. All my PvP armor is Void now with the exception of the cloak. Still trying to decide what I want that to be. So my armor is set (finally).

So... the days of me running around with just a sniper in 6v6 are over lol. They have completely flipped the meta 180 degrees. We went in as a group of six tonight and got our ass handed to us thinking it was still going to be a Hand Cannon / Shotgun / Sniper meta. NOPE.... It is all Auto Rifles / Sidearms / and maybe a few Snipers / Shotguns. I never went negative surprisingly, but... we didn't win one game either lol. There are still a few people using Pulse Rifles but the only one that will compete in this meta now is Bygones (maybe... a god rolled Blast Furnace). That's it. Put the rest of your Pulse Rifles in the vault because they are no good now. With the introduction of the Auto Rifle buff there is a HUGE uptick in Auto Rifle usage in PvP now. 600 and 720 rpm Auto Rifles got the biggest buff and it fucking shows lol. The only thing is, you can pretty much forget on taking a Legendary Auto in there right now as they won't compete with the Exotics. Don't kid yourself and think you are going to take a Steelfeather Repeater in there and compete against the Exotics. You won't. Like the vast majority of any Legendary Auto Rifles in the game, they don't have the range or the stability. The Suros Regime is a beast in there now (as long as you are using "Spinning Up"). The Monte Carlo is also a very good Auto for a melee build. Both of these are great because they have great stability. They are both viable choices to take into Crucible right now. But there is one stand out that no one seems to be using "yet".

I say yet, because it won't be long before everyone starts using this.

Fucking Hard Light is so fucking stupid OP it is unbelievable. I'm lucky because I finished the Catalyst quite a while back (though I have never once used it in the game other than to complete the catalyst) so it has MAXED out stability. This thing is a motherfucking laser beam after they finally fixed the screen shake a few months ago. But what sets this gun apart from all the rest of the guns in the game... it has zero damage falloff. So as long as you can hit the target (which isn't very hard with max stability) you will be doing max damage no matter the range. Then you add in that it will actually shoot around corners and if it hits a target it does double the damage on a ricochet round??? It is absolutely crazy to think one of the worst guns that has ever been introduced into the game (even since D1) is now the best gun in the game in a 6v6 match. My last game I went on a 16 kill streak and ended up with 36 kills. I never once pulled out my shotgun. It doesn't matter anymore. If you see a rushing shotgunner??? It just fucking melts them before they can even think about closing the gap. Shoulder Charging Titan??? Pfft... They don't exist with this thing. It's unreal how good this gun is now. I cannot overstate how good this gun is. All of this is assuming you have completed the catalyst. Without the catalyst it would still be a top choice but good luck with hitting your target at range.

That said... I went into Comp with my regular Hand Cannon / Sniper loadout and won every match. I only saw the new Tommy's Matchbox in a couple of games. Other than that it was still Hand Cannons, Shotguns, and Snipers. I don't know if it was because there was only one person running an Auto Rifle on the opposing team that they just couldn't compete or the Tommy's Matchbook just isn't that great? Or maybe the Autos haven't trickled over into Comp yet? The problem with the Tommy's Matchbox is once you hold down the trigger and fire 20 shots it ramps up the damage output by 30%. But... It also causes burn damage to you (think Touch of Malice). So the longer you fire it the more damage it puts out but it also does more damage to you in the process. The range drop off is also 26 meters so it's a bullet hose up close but outside of that 26 meter mark it drops off drastically like most every other Auto Rifle in the game.

So, I've got some build crafting to do with my armor now. I built my armor up for Trials with nothing but Hand Cannon / Sniper perks. But in a 6v6 environment? Fuuuucccckkkk.... I'm lucky I kept all my old IB armor with good stats so I can build up an Auto Rifle build for 6's. The entire Artifact this season is built around Auto Rifles so that should tell you something. I FUCKING HATE Auto Rifles as to me they require zero skill to use. Just hold the trigger and spray. If it weren't for the Hard Light with the Catalyst? I'd be pissed this season. There is one stand out with the Artifact this season. They have finally put Anti Barrier rounds back on Sub Machine guns. I really missed that last season.

Now if they would just buff FUCKING SCOUT RIFLES so they would be viable once again in Crucible it would be great. They haven't been a viable gun in Crucible since year one of D2.

Didn't get to play much (at all) yesterday after the update finally loaded. I'll have to blow the dust off Breakneck and Hard Light...before they bring the screen shake back to even it out.

Good info, thanks Britt. Yippy, I fucking love auto's!!! Time to go through the vault and start pulling my exotic auto's out.

Did they nerf the SMG's or are they about the same as last season?

I was all downloaded last night, cooked dinner, laid down on the couch to chill for a minute and I woke up at midnight with The First 48 playing on the TV. See if I can get on tonight. So fucking tired after this new commute that I have. Fucking hate it.

They won't be that great in PvE. They never have been a good utility weapon in PvE activities. Scout Rifles and Submachine Guns still rule there.

In 6v6 PvP? This season yes. Comp? I'm still unsure of. I've got a feeling they will slowly make there way into the Comp playlist.

Strikes, Raids, Menagerie, etc... Auto Rifles are basically useless. They always have been. This season will be no different as far as PvE content goes. A good Scout Rifle / Submachine Gun setup will still be king. They have nerfed Snipers pretty badly and Grenade Launchers to an extent. Which brings Linear Fusion Rifles to take the place of heavy DPS weapons. If you are using an Auto Rifle in PvE you are gimping yourself.

    ^^ See above ^^

Auto Rifles are useless outside of PvP. Up until this season they were useless inside of PvP (with the exception of Yr 1 D2). I've watched you fire your Stealfeather Repeater across the chasm on the Insight Terminus strike a hundred times knowing that you aren't hitting anything from that distance. But you continue to do it. So if you want to use an Auto in PvE be my guest. Doesn't make any sense but whatever.

Submachine Guns remain unchanged. The Recluse is still the Recluse. But they did bring back the anti barrier rounds this season.

IMO... Auto Rifles are a skill-less weapon. Just hold the trigger and spam fire. It takes skill to learn how to fire a Hand Cannon, Scout Rifle, Fusion Rifle, and it damn sure takes skill to learn to shoot a Sniper Rifle in the game. I put Auto Rifles right above Jotunn and The Colony. There is no skill involved in those weapons. There is very little skill required of you with an Auto Rifle. Just hold the trigger and aim in the general direction. But, that's what we have to play with this season so that's the meta I'll play. I'm always preaching "play the meta" so that's what I'll do. Even if I don't like it.

Well fun time in regular Crucible is over (for right now). Went in and played a bunch last night and kind of like I figured, it didn't take long for the community to figure out that Hard Light is the best gun in the crucible right now. I have never minded a change in the meta of the game but when it is one gun, and only one gun, that is viable? It's no fun. There is no chasing for a God Roll for a weapon since most likely, if you have played this game for any length of time, you have the Hard Light. Nothing will compete with it. I would say that 70% of the people that I ran into last night were using Hard Light. So it's nothing but laser beams flying around the map. I ran into a guy using an Arc Logic last night and it was almost "good for you man using something different". I'm sure as hell not using something different. Why would I?

I hated Yr 1 D2 for this very reason. It was nothing but Auto Rifles (with the exception of the Mida on long maps). The only thing that was worse was you could run double primaries back then. So you ran TWO Auto Rifles  When they finally switched away from the dual primary system it allowed for a new variety of weapons to use. But if you are trying to use a Hand Cannon right now in the Valor Rank playlist? You better play defensively rather than play offensively. The TTK for the best Hand Cannons with the perfect rolls is well above .50 secs. The TTK for the Hard Light is .47 secs. So there is no contest anymore. No more chasing for God Rolls on weapons since Hard Light will dominate until they adjust it.

I really don't understand this change. Yes I will agree that Auto Rifles didn't have a place in Crucible for a very long time. But neither have Scout Rifles (with the exception of the Randy's Throwing Knife). Hand Cannons were pretty dominate but you actually have to know how to use one in the game. It's a skill you learn over time. Auto Rifles require almost zero skill to use. If you get the first shot off you are most likely going to win that engagement since it requires no skill to hold down the trigger. It makes Crucible games boring because it's a no skill weapon. Before, when you got into an engagement with someone using a Hand Cannon, you weren't really sure who would come out on top because of range, flinch, whiffing a shot, etc... Now? Now it's just who gets the shot off first.

I'll try Comp today. Hopefully it will still be like the other night where Autos haven't trickled over into Comp. Comp playlist requires actual skill to play in. Hopefully they don't bring a no skill weapon with them. We'll see? I can confirm one thing though. The Revoker is the only Sniper that will headshot a Super out of existence. I just hate seeing the Revoker paired with an Auto.

Take it how you like. Read the ^^ above ^^ post. If you are using a no skill weapon? It goes a long way about how I feel about the player behind that weapon. Because we are forced to use a no skill weapon right now, they have made Crucible a no skill game mode. You get the first shot off in a 1v1 engagement? You most likely get the kill (unless you completely suck). I get the first shot off? I get the kill. There is no in between.

I'm honestly concerned about Trials for this season now. Fuck it if it's going to be nothing but Hard Light spammers. They will have regressed back to Trials of the Nine in year 1. If that's the case... this is no way to bring back original Trials. With the Artifact this season they have pushed us into an Auto Rifle meta. The thing is... In PvE activities? If you know anything about the game you would never use an Auto Rifle in PvE. So any of the mods in the Artifact are useless that apply to Auto Rifles. I think that is one reason that they brought back the Anti Barrier Rounds for Submachine Guns this season. Because in PvE? Why would you EVER use an Auto Rifle over a Submachine Gun? The Recluse, Exit Strategy, etc... will always outplay an Auto Rifle. Breakneck is about the only Legendary Auto that I can think of that is decent. But I've never used it personally since I've got it. Even after it was fixed.
