Police Officer Interview On Wednesday.

So i have testing and an interview for my local police dept on Wednesday. I hope it all goes well. First i have to pass the written test, then the physical test. After that is the oral board. Any advice on that? Obviously i need to look extra professional. Ive never done an oral board interview before, so i dont know what to expect.

I really really need this job. This would get my foot in the door, to the career that i want. Plus a little bigger paycheck then what im getting now. Any advice is appreciated!!!

good luck man! i've never done an oral board interview either, but it sounds stressful, but being relaxed, friendly and outgoing will probably go a long ways.

Don't quote me on this but I've heard the Oral Board review is the psychological review. You know, the "Can we trust this person with a gun/is a position of power" psychological stuff.

First off good luck. If and when you make it to the oral boards. Dress nice, shine your shoes. (Im help with the hiring for the Fire Department I work for and thats a big one before it even starts nstarts). Answer your questions to the best of your ability and stand by your answer even if they try and make you change it because they will. If given the chance some oral boards dont but if you can shake everyones hand in the room. Be your self and dont get overly nervous just go with the flow.

 

Wear Pants.

 

If you can, take the time to read up or watch some videos about body language. If you're good at reading your interviewers it'll be easy for you to know if you're answers are satisfying them, and you'll be able to avoid looking like you have something to hide. Try to think of a few situations that you may have been in that you can give as examples of how you've dealt with difficult situations. Always take a moment to compose your answer in your mind rather than blurting things out and then rambling to try to get on track. Don't be humble, you need to tell them why you're the right person for the job. The person they want to hire and issue a weapon to is someone that makes good decisions and stays calm under pressure. Show them that you are this person and you'll have it clinched. Good luck dude.

 

Oh another thing learn about the place you are applying I always ask some sort of question like how many fire houses do we have. I feel they have been on our web site to apply they could have done a little reading about the place they want to work for.

 

ToyotaDude, I did several oral boards before I got into the job I have now. Here are a few tips.....

• BE HONEST!
• Do NOT waver on your answers! Once you give your answer stick with it!
• Be a person! They aren't looking for some hard ass straight outta school ready to whoop ass, and take names.
• They want to see if you can stay cool under pressure, so STAY CALM!

This job is about enforcing the law, and helping others. You have to have discretion and know how to use it. Not everyone I stop gets a ticket. Not everyone needs a ticket, or to go to jail. But, then some do. Knowing the difference is what makes a difference. You have to be compassionate, empathetic, sympathetic, loyal, honest, good morals, good values, and generally a good person. This job isn't about what you see on COPS. It is about so much more. It is 7 hours and 55 minutes of sheer boredom and 5 minutes of the worst terror you can ever imagine.

This is the best career in the world, and the worst all at the same time. While I haven't been doing it long (5 years), I have picked up a few things, and been on a few hiring boards myself.

Ya im pretty nervous, I think i can get the written and physical tests down. Just worried bout the actual oral board.

 

Ya i was born in this city so i know quite a bit. But that is a good idea to read up. You never know if they are going to ask what the population is, or how many officers they have on duty.

 

Good luck man! My husband went for that before he joined the Army. The oral interview is pretty tough, pretty stressful I guess.
Wear a suit!

 

Through out the testing process, dress professionally. Suit and tie suggested. Look them in the eye and shake their hands. Confidence, not cockiness. Study up ahead of time.

stay on em..did you call the County HR or the Sheriff's Office HR..they are 2 different entities.

 

I dont remember which one i called. I turned in my application on 8-7-2010. So 2 and a half months ago. Which one should i call? county or sheriff?

 

Call the County HR.

 

Make sure to take the empties out of the back of the Yota. And no, Smoking before the interview to relax is not a good idea.
