Uhhh... not on purpose, but I have heard "I resemble that comment" somewhere before - maybe I just don't know the original source?

Has anyone had their camper shipped to them yet? Also, check out today's Instagram at VO to see one of the few Nomads that have been produced. It has glass Frontrunner gullwing doors.

I dabbled with it but the cost to ship is around $1500 (at least for ATOverland Summit) and cost to install is $800 depending on what shop you find willing to take on the project as most canopy shops dont know what a Drifter is. So I decided to drive 2k miles each way and make a fun trip out of it!

Yeah thats a bit much. VO never actually quoted me freight cost so i dont know what they would charge. Think about prepping for shipping, crating, Install, and shipping. It all adds up into the bill. It costs around $800 to ship a car, may be worthwhile to send your truck to VO to have the install done and then ship it back.

This has been done a few times now I think. The Vagabros can correct me if I am wrong. It would be the most efficient means of installation. But the adventures to be had on a road trip, now that’s priceless!

That's absolute insanity. There's nothing more for the shop to install other than a standard camper shell. It's literally the same process as installing a Leer or Snugtop. Seal, lift, place, wire, done.

For reference the shop I used in Bend, Oregon (J&R Canopy) was under $100 to swap a used Drifter from one truck to my truck. They didn't know what it was when I called, but they had no issues doing the swap after I explained the process. $800 to install is ludicrous and that shop should be avoided.

Hang in there guys. I'm with you. I'm #113 and was told I'd be installed before the other guys that have scheduled mid-April install dates already but didn't get a response to confirm my date yet.

Potentially powdercoat or other options that delay a bit?

I called around Minneapolis to 5 different shops who install canopies and not one wanted to do it. The shop that agreed to take on the task was a custom auto accessories shop and they estimated 8 hours to receive the crate, unpack the crate, install the drifter, and discard the packing materials. You have to look at the whole picture, not just the install process.

Im sure that a local Canopy shop doing a swap would charge much less but what if not one wanted to take on the task within 60 miles?

Ah, fair enough. Didn't think about the crate situation. That's still a ton of money.
