Truck has been sitting in driveway for about four hours. Went out to get something, all was quiet, didn’t start or switch accessory on, finished, shut and locked door using outside door handle touch button. Heard a noise, sounded like a fuel pump, came from the area of the fuel pump. Knowing modern vehicles do all sorts of things, ignored it.... came back out 5 min later, still whirring. Started truck and let it run for 30 seconds, shut it off. All quiet.... WTF?

Like it's in the Owners Manual "Normal", or "Normal" on Tacoma's since 2005.

The truck runs random diagnostic fuel tank pressure.. EVAP, if I’m not mistaken. It is normal. I took my truck out of my garage the first time it happened, thinking it was a malfunction and a fire hazard.

It's not random. Quite the contrary, if it was random the data wouldn't be reliable.

Duly noted, I’ll mark my calendar and wait for it to turn on at same time, same date...

4 cyl Camry does this as well. It's mentioned in the owners manual for both the Camry and Tacoma.

Must be high pitched, 100,000 + miles and I've never heard a peep out my 4 banger Camry, or the truck.

Takes about 4hrs after shutting off the engine for it to kick on for my Camry. It's a low pitched hum.
