In my area I am comfortable with a soft cover as I do not store valuables there. If I did I would definitely go hard cover.

Having the topper is nice bc I can leave stuff in the bed and not worry if it'll be there next time I'm back. Also works great for camping, tho I've got the 5ft bed and am nearly 6'1" so I use a DAC tent or sleep diagonally.

GL, I've seen a few when I was looking for used, 6' bed are far less common compared to the 5' bed.

I love my softopper brand soft top. Mine was around $700 if I remember right, but probably my favorite purchase I’ve ever made. I camp in the back all the time. It folds flat or completely removed in half a minute when I wanna load my dirt bike. It holds up extremely well to rain. I’ve slept in what felt like torrential downpours on the coast through the night and not a drop got inside. Plus when I don’t want it on my truck it comes off in a one minute. It hangs folded up on my wall taking up virtually no garage space.

Picked up the shovelhead from Smitty in Grant, Florida. He just finished the overhaul. It’s for a pre-AMC FL frame.

I had a topper on my tuck and recently sold it.
When it was good it was great
When it was bad it was terrible.
If I got another It would have to have Windoors on the side and or a bed slide.
In terms of security... it keeps honest thieves out... but I definitely didn’t leave tools or bikes in the back not very chained down to the bed.

I put a want ad on the local c-list for a shell and a guy emailed me, supposed to be going to pick it up this afternoon. Will have to paint it, can’t win them all.

Expect to pay $500 range if not doing it yourself. I looked at one that would have needed paint, thought about it, but it didn't have the options I wanted/needed.

I’ll paint it myself, ask a guy yesterday who does okay paint work what he’d charge and he said $200 to paint it. Guy wants $300 for the shell, we’ll see what happens. I’ll paint it in a month or two.

Great price. I've seen a number of good deals on gen 2 caps, not so much on gen3

20 Pro with a Leer 100XR with some options. Just under $3000.

Love my Softopper, very easy to fold down if I need to put something in the truck that is tall, does require maintenance to keep nice, I recommend 303 fabric gaurd and marine plastic window protectant. Also at about 2 years old now and I had to replace a few of the button screws, but cheap and easy.

Also I am 6'4" and the camper extension for softopper is awesome!! great in the windy high desert out here in CO and UT and easy to set up.
