As far as mounting on your bumper, can you trust the rest of the world's drivers not to rear-end a filled LP tank?

I tend to be safety conscience (I'm even the safety rep for my 'team') and I say, shits gonna happen. Sometimes you just have to live life and enjoy it because you never know when it's gonna be over!
Ha! Just added that to my signature line.

Resurrecting an old thread...looking to mount mine on my prinsu rack (eventually when get rear bumper will move there). It seems as though the front runner roof rack holder would require the bar spacing that is unique to front runner and wouldn't work with the prinsu rack. Any other suggestions for mounting to roof rack? From what I've read it wouldn't be advisable to mount in the horizontal position...

Ive been thinking about picking up a 5lb tank and strapping it to my Yakima rack. Would it be bad to lay it flat? Otherwise I liked the idea of putting it on a round cooking pan and strapping it down tight. Also going to upgrade to a Frontrunner rack so maybe i should by their hold down and retrofit it to my rack for now.

You don't want to lay it on it's side. If this is a must, look for a horizontal tank. These tend to cost much more but can be found on Craigslist every now and then.

This is how I fly. I picked up two milk crates off the side of the road years ago and keep them in either corner of my bed, closest to the cab. Holds two ammo cans perfectly. Or a propane tank. Or paint cans. Or dang near anything. I find them so damn useful that I'll always keep a couple in the truck. I secure them with the reusable twist ties to the tie-downs in the corner of the bed.

OH so wrong. My Jeep had a rear tire/gas can rack for a while. It was a target I was hit at least four times. It was grey at the time. I painted it red and haven't bee hit since. People pay more attention to what is going on in the vehicle than what's going on outside.

I need to get me a smaller propane tank. The standard 20lbs ones wont fit in a truck bed with a cover.

Be careful if you buy online, there are 2 10lb(one might be 11lb) bottles. One is the same diameter as a 20lb but shorter, the other is the same height as a 20lb but smaller diameter.
